Daily Fantasy Golf: Humana Challenge Picks & Projections
Sony Open Recap
What a week last week, hopefully you took my advice on a few of the picks. All four of the picks made the cut and then did some damage during the weekend. Jimmy Walker won the tournament with a solid 17-under, Chris Kirk finished 2nd with 16-under, Charles Howell III finished in 8th, and Russell Henley finished in 51st. All in all, you can’t ask for a much better week. We will look to keep it going this week.
Humana Challenge Preview
This week’s event will be played at the LaQuinta Country Club in California. The event has a full field and will feature a cut after the first three days of play making it extremely important to target players that you are confident in to make the cut. This event last year was an extremely low scoring event, there were 22 golfers with a score of at least 20 under par. It should be an exciting week of golf.
Humana Challenge Picks
- Charles Howell III: $20,866 – Howell seems to play his best golf early in the year. He had a slow start last week, but ended up playing well through the weekend and finished in the top-10 for the 4th time in the last 5 events. He is a very safe pick this week that has a great shot at another top-10 finish this week. Howell played in this event last year and finished runner-up as he lost in a playoff to Brian Gay. Howell is priced well and makes a solid play this week.
- Jeff Overton: $15,632 – Overton was high in my projections last week and he ended up with a solid top-10 finish at the Sony Open. Overton has finished in the top 16 in 4 of his last 5 events and has had success on this course in the past. Last year, Overton finished with an 18-under at this event and he should be able to find success here again. I like the price and think that he should easily make the cut and push for a top-20 finish this week.
- Brian Stuard: $16,670 – If you look at his results from last season, you will want to stay far away from Stuard this week. However, he has a few things working in his favor this week. He is playing some of his best golf right now including back to back top-10 finishes, he played very well in this event last year, and he has great odds to win this event considering his price.
- Kevin Stadler: $15,036 – For whatever reason, I always have a hard time putting Stadler on my squad. But his recent play has me sold. He’s made the cut at every event he has attended this season, he has finished in the top-20 in 4 of his last 6 events, and he played well in this event last season. This event calls for players that can really shoot low scores and Stadler is one of those players.

Humana Challange Projections
This week’s projections are based on two factors: Vegas odds and % of cuts made. I used these two factors to create a player score that rates a player from 1-100 based on the event this week. That score is then used to develop a projection for each player based on what I think the overall winning score will be and where they rank in terms of their player score. The projections are ranked by $/fantasy point and use DraftStreet’s salaries and scoring structure.
