Pitcher Grind Down
- Ian Kennedy – Kennedy is off to a similar start to this season as he is giving up a lot of hits, but racks up the K’s. He has a 4.13 ERA this season, but has struck out 23 batters over 24 innings. While those aren’t bad numbers, all four of those starts were in pitcher-friendly ballparks. Tonight he faces the Brewers in Miller Park which surrendered the 5th most runs and 5th most HR’s last season. This is a night to target the Brewers’ bats. Rating = 4
- Yovani Gallardo – Gallardo has only given up a combined 4 earned runs this season. He has a 1.46 ERA with 19 K’s over 24 innings of work. Tonight he faces a Padres offense that is decent against RH pitching, but lacks the firepower that would make me avoid a pitcher against them. I think there are better options for cash games, but Gallardo should pitch well here. Rating = 7
Batter Grind Down
San Diego
- Everth Cabrera – Gallardo gave up a .321 wOBA to LH batters last season and Cabrera is one of the fastest players in baseball. If he can get on base, he will be aggressive on the base pads. Cabrera is batting .319 against RH pitching this season.
- Additional Plays: Seth Smith
Milwaukee
- Ryan Braun – Kennedy gave up 27 HR’s last season and Braun has already hit 6 HR’s this season. See where I’m going with this? Braun has 6 hits and 3 HR’s in his last 3 games and I’m predicting another bomb from him tonight. Target Braun in all leagues.
- Additional Plays: Aramis Ramirez, Jean Segura, Jonathan Lucroy

Pitcher Grind Down
- Madison Bumgarner – There are very few instances where Bumgarner is only a small favorite in a game with a run total of 9.5 runs. That’s what happens when pitchers play in Coors Field. As always, you should avoid all pitchers in Coors. Rating = 4
- Franklin Morales – Lefty De La Rosa had success against this Giants team last night, but I’m not sure that the lefty Morales will have the same fate. Morales has an ERA just under 5.00 and has a very high WHIP of 1.54. I wouldn’t be targeting Morales if this was being played in San Francisco. Rating = 1
Batter Grind Down
San Francisco
- Buster Posey – After a dud performance last night, I’m expecting the Giants’ bats to come alive tonight. Morales gave up a .424 wOBA and a .944 OPS to RH batters last season. Each and every one of the RH batters on the Giants is in play tonight.
- Additional Plays: Hunter Pence, Mike Morse, Angel Pagan, Pablo Sandoval
Colorado
- Troy Tulowitzki – Even though Bumgarner is a terrific pitcher, this game is in Coors where a pitcher’s ERA goes to die. Over the last 3 seasons, Tulo has a .935 OPS against LH pitching and a .942 OPS at Coors Field. He is the top SS on the board tonight.
- Additional Plays: Wilin Rosario, Nolan Arenado, Drew Stubbs

Pitcher Grind Down
- Nick Martinez – With Tanner Scheppers injured, the Rangers have called Martinez up. He was pretty average in his major league debut earlier this season giving up 3 earned runs in 6 innings of work. Martinez will likely be on a short leash tonight and should be avoided against the A’s who are a very good hitting team at home. Rating = 3
- Tommy Milone – In his first two starts of the season, Milone has an ERA just over 4.00 with 8 K’s over 11 innings of work. Milone pitched well at home last season, but is a less than appealing option tonight against the Rangers. Rating = 4
Batter Grind Down
Texas
- Prince Fielder – Even though this is a lefty/lefty matchup, Fielder has the splits in his favor against Milone. Last season Milone gave up a .345 wOBA to LH batters and Fielder was better against LH pitching than he was against RH pitching.
- Additional Plays: Alex Rios
Oakland
- Brandon Moss – Moss against an average RH pitcher is a combination that I love to target in DFS. Moss had an OPS of .905 against RH pitching last season including 26 of his 30 HR’s.
- Additional Plays: Yoenis Cespedes, John Jaso, Josh Donaldson

Pitcher Grind Down
- A.J. Burnett – Burnett is coming off of his best start of the season as he threw 7 innings of scoreless ball against the Braves. Tonight he faces the Dodgers who were blanked by Cliff Lee last night. Burnett is still quite a bit hobbled and if you watch him try to run, it looks awfully painful. With Ryu on the mound opposite him, he’s going to have a tough time picking up a win. Rating = 5
- Hyun-Jin Ryu – Ryu has made 5 starts this season and has not allowed a single earned run in 4 of those starts. He has a 1.93 ERA with 25 K’s over 28 innings of work. Ryu was dominant at Dodger Stadium last season with a 2.32 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He is one of my favorite pitchers to target tonight and should be used in all leagues. Rating = 10
Batter Grind Down
Philadelphia
- With the exception of his first start against the Giants, Ryu has been dominant this season. The Phillies are huge underdogs in a game featuring a 6.5 run total. Avoid all Phillies.
- Additional Plays: None
LA Dodgers
- Adrian Gonzalez – Last season Burnett gave up a .345 wOBA to LH batters and A-Gon has always hit well against RH pitching. A hobbled Burnett should be no matchup for Gonzalez and the Dodgers tonight.
- Additional Plays: Carl Crawford

Pitcher Grind Down
- Collin McHugh – McHugh is a 26 year-old RH pitcher that is only getting the start because Scott Feldman was scratched with a biceps injury. McHugh highest pitch count in the minors this season was only 73 pitches. Not only will he have a short leash, but even if he manages to pitch well, he will not pitch deep into this game. Rating = 2
- Erasmo Ramirez – Ramirez has decent stuff, but he has not been able to put it together. He has a 7.50 ERA on the season with a 1.78 WHIP and only 12 K’s over 18 innings of work. Ramirez does have a favorable matchup against the Astros though and he should be targeted as a GPP play. He has nice upside for a pitcher at his price point. Rating = 6
Batter Grind Down
Houston
- Jason Castro – Last season Ramirez gave up a .365 wOBA to LH batters and Castro has great power against RH pitching. Castro is one of the better values at the Catcher position tonight if you are looking to save some cap space.
- Additional Plays: Jose Altuve
Seattle
- Robinson Cano – Cano against an inexperienced RH pitcher makes a lot of sense. Cano is batting .298 against RH pitching this season and should come up to bat with plenty of RBI opportunities.
- Additional Plays: Kyle Seager, Abraham Almonte, Nick Franklin, Corey Hart
