Pitcher Grind Down
- Drew Pomeranz – Pomeranz was having a terrific season before the A’s traded for Samardzija and Hammel and optioned him back to Triple-A. In 8 starts this season he has posted a 2.86 ERA (3.86 xFIP) with a K/9 of 7.8. He does walk quite a few batters though (3.7 per 9 innings) and he has always given up a high HR per fly ball rate. He’s worth monitoring moving forward, but should be avoided tonight against the Astros who are ranked 4th in wOBA vs. LH pitching this season. Rating = 5
Salaries: $5200 FD, $10350 DD, $7200 DK, $NA FF, $NA SS, $NA FTD
- Brad Peacock – Peacock has a decent strikeout rate, but that’s about all he has going for him. On the season he has a 5.30 ERA. He gives up too many walks (4.6 per 9 innings) and too many HR’s (1.45 per 9 innings). Those are two things that A’s offense can really make you pay for as they are good at drawing walks and hitting homers. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5000 FD, $8450 DD, $5200 DK, $ FF, $13000 SS, $8450 FTD

Oakland
Josh Reddick – You can plug any of the A’s LH hitters into this spot. They all have a terrific matchup against Peacock who has given up a .352 wOBA to batters from the left side of the plate. I like Reddick here because he is cheap and offers a ton of upside for the price.
Additional Plays: Stephen Vogt, Brandon Moss, Coco Crisp
Houston
Jose Altuve – Altuve is one of the best hitters in baseball against LH pitching. He is batting .425 with a with a .446 wOBA vs. southpaws this season. If you want to spend up at 2B, Altuve is the clear #1 option.
Additional Plays: Chris Carter, Dexter Fowler

Pitcher Grind Down
- Clayton Kershaw – Once again, Kershaw is the top pitching option on the board. You can basically pencil him in as the top play every time that he takes the mound. He owns an incredible 1.82 ERA on the season with a K/9 of 10.8. He is walking a career-low 1.2 batters per 9 innings and is only giving up 0.47 HR’s per 9 innings. He’s the best pitcher in baseball and he draws a very favorable matchup against the Diamondbacks who have had the worst offense in baseball over the last 30 days. Rating = 10
Salaries: $12200 FD, $21800 DD, $14400 DK, $NA FF, $33000 SS, $21750 FTD
- Wade Miley – Miley’s peripherals have looked better than his ERA all season long. His xFIP (3.44) is almost a full run lower than his ERA (4.29). Miley has always been able to rack up the strikeouts and he’s averaging over 8 per 9 innings this season. While he is obviously a huge underdog with Kershaw on the mound, I think he could make a nice tournament play as the Dodgers are ranked 20th in wOBA vs. LH pitching this season. Rating = 5.5
Salaries: $7200 FD, $14250 DD, $8200 DK, $ FF, $20300 SS, $14600 FTD

LA Dodgers
Scott Van Slyke – Van Slyke has terrific power against LH pitching, especially against this particular lefty. Van Slyke is 7/16 off of Miley is his career and all 7 of those hits went for extra bases (4 HR’s, 3 doubles). He offers great upside as a value play in the OF.
Additional Plays: Yasiel Puig, Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez
Arizona
Unless the site that you are playing on awards points for hitters striking out, you should avoid the Diamondbacks tonight.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Henderson Alvarez – Alvarez has pitched well this season, but he doesn’t provide the upside that we look for in a starting pitcher. His 2.57 ERA is solid, but he is only averaging 5.6 K’s per 9 innings. That really limits his fantasy potential. He also draws a tough matchup against the Angels who are one of the best offenses in baseball. Rating = 4
Salaries: $8000 FD, $13850 DD, $7300 DK, $NA FF, $22500 SS, $13850 FTD
- Hector Santiago – Santiago has pitched well this season. He owns a 3.38 ERA with a K/9 of 7.8. He does walk a lot of batters (3.4 per 9 innings), but his high K-rate makes up for that. Tonight he faces a strikeout happy Marlins offense that has a major-league high 25% strikeout rate on the road this season. Santiago is a sizable favorite and could make a nice play as #2 pitcher on multi-pitcher sties. Rating = 6
Salaries: $5900 FD, $11900 DD, $6500 DK, $ FF, $14800 SS, $11900 FTD

Miami
Giancarlo Stanton – I wouldn’t be doing Stanton justice if I left him off of the recommended plays when he was facing a LH pitcher. Stanton has been mashing LH pitching this season with a .372 batting average and a .478 wOBA.
Additional Plays: None
LA Angels
Mike Trout – Trout has 3 multi-hit games over his last 5. He’s one of those players that you shouldn’t need a whole lot of persuading to consider. He’s one of the best hitters in baseball and he offers a great combination of both speed and power.
Additional Plays: Kole Calhoun

Pitcher Grind Down
- Yovani Gallardo – It’s another night full of pitching options. Gallardo faces the Padres in Petco Park and certainly deserves consideration tonight. On the season he owns a 3.38 ERA with a K/9 of 6.9. While the Padres offense has been better over the last month, they are still ranked dead last in wOBA vs. RH pitching. Gallardo sees a nice ballpark boost and makes a great play on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6.5
Salaries: $7400 FD, $15100 DD, $8100 DK, $NA FF, $19300 SS, $15100 FTD
- Odrisamer Despaigne – Despaigne’s xFIP (4.43) is nearly a run higher than his ERA (3.44). He doesn’t strike many batters out and he draws a very tough matchup against the Brewers whose lineup is tough all the way down to the 8 hitter. Despaigne will have the platoon advantage over a RH heavy Brewers lineup, but it’s still a less than favorable matchup. Rating = 5
Salaries: $5700 FD, $11450 DD, $6200 DK, $ FF, $16100 SS, $ FTD

Milwaukee
Scooter Gennett – If you are looking for a cheap 2B tonight, Gennett is a terrific option. He has really hit RH pitching well this season and Despaigne has given up a .351 wOBA to LH hitters.
Additional Plays: Aramis Ramirez, Jonathan Lucroy
San Diego
There aren’t any plays that stand out on the Padres tonight in Petco.

Pitcher Grind Down
- Franklin Morales – Morales should be avoided tonight. He has a high ERA (5.32), a high BB/9 (4.1 per 9 innings), and a low K/9 (6.1 per 9). That’s not the recipe for DFS success. Morales is one of the biggest underdogs on the board and for good reason. Rating = 4
Salaries: $5200 FD, $9850 DD, $5700 DK, $NA FF, $13000 SS, $NA FTD
- Tim Hudson – Hudson has struggled in the month of August. He has a 4.87 ERA with only 9 K’s over 20 innings of work. That’s a bit concerning, but he’ll have a great chance to bounce back tonight against the Rockies who have been one of the worst hitting teams on the road this season. The Rockies also strike out at a 24% rate on the road which is the 2nd highest in the majors. Hudson should get plenty of run support and will likely be in line for the win. His value tonight will hinge on how many strikeouts he can rack up. Rating = 6.5
Salaries: $6800 FD, $15400 DD, $6600 DK, $ FF, $19000 SS, $15400 FTD

Colorado
Charlie Blackmon – Hudson has given up a .334 wOBA to LH hitters this season and has struggled in his last few starts. The LH bats on the Rockies make decent contrarian plays tonight.
Additional Plays: Corey Dickerson
San Francisco
Buster Posey – Posey is fresh off of a 2-HR performance. He homered in each of his last 2 at-bats and was basically the difference between cashing and not-cashing in double-ups. He has always hit LH pitching well and should be targeted in all league tonight against Morales who has given up a .405 wOBA to RH hitters this season.
Additional Plays: Hunter Pence, Pablo Sandoval
