Recapping the DraftKings Fantasy Baseball Championship

In the first live final outside of the good old U.S. of A., DraftKings went above and beyond by offering their guests a 5-day trip to Atlantis, which concluded with last night’s Fantasy Baseball Championship. I unfortunately did not get to attend this event, but from what I saw on our coverage page, this was quite the vacation for everyone involved. From golf outings to pool parties, DK did a great job keeping everyone happy and they’ve set the bar high for future live events. What we all care about happened on Tuesday night; 50 entries competed for the $1,000,000 top prize, and it just so happened that one of our members was able to take it down! I doubt I’m playing spoiler for anyone at this point, so here’s a big congratulations for CSURAM88 on his legendary night! He wasn’t the only one to walk home with a healthy sum of money, so let’s check out how our members fared in last night’s final..

CSURAM88

One of the most well-known names in DFS took full advantage of his three entries and his Red Sox stack with a Cueto/Wood pitching staff. While this lineup was out in front early, things looked a little shaky when Cueto allowed a first inning run and Wood got off to a dreadful start, but both ended up turning it around and turning in respectable nights. The real magic came when the Red Sox offense went off late in the game, which was highlighted by big games from Pedroia, Napoli and Craig. He also caught productive nights from his two non-Red Sox in Jose Bautista (who homered) and Carlos Santana (11 FP’s), which helped to make his sweat at the end of the night a little easier to handle. Once again, a big congratulations to CSU; the victory was well deserved.

DirtyGirl15

The other Grinder with three entries, this guy was one of the stars of the coverage page, as his (completely amazing) tiger t-shirt was arguably the great attire choice of the night. He walked away with a cool $350,000 after all was said and done, and would have been in much better shape had Cole Hamels not tanked towards the end of his start. He also rostered Pedroia and Napoli, and was able to get another big game out of punt play Zach Walters, who has seemingly been hitting HR’s at will over the last week.

Rayofhope

It’s been a busy last couple of weeks for this guy, as he was deeply involved in FanDuel’s big weekend earlier this month and also had quite the showing here in Atlantis. The big play for him was Jacoby Ellsbury, who had some very solid BvP numbers against Porcello coming in and managed to homer twice to finish with 31 FP’s. Had Alex Wood and Gio Gonzalez been able to pitch as most of us expected, he could have finished even higher. Jose Bautista was another nice upside play that also left the yard.

JMToWin

I have to give it to him, the guy has some great hair. Not only that, but he’s not so bad at this DFS thing either.. He was all over the leaderboard last night; he didn’t have the greatest of starts, but climbed towards the top of the leaderboard later in the night and managed to finish 7th to take home $45,000. JM is establishing himself as one of the better GPP players in the game, and this is not likely to be his last appearance at a live final. He went the Cueto/Wood route on the mound and also benefited from the big night out of Jacoby Ellsbury.

00oreo00

My favorite username in all of DFS. It’s like the 0’s are the Oreo cookies and the word “oreo” is the filling.. does the two 0’s mean it’s a double stuffed Oreo? Anyways, he rolled out Alex Wood on both of his entries and split up Cueto and Dallas Keuchel, which was enough to differentiate his entries (CSU rolled out Alex Wood on all three teams, which had to have made him nervous early on). Oreo’s 8th place lineup featured a White Sox stack, and his 10th place team had a nice mix of Blue Jays and Astros.

In case you missed our coverage last night, here’s our interview with CSU shortly after he shipped the milly!
