  • Grinders Rankings Update 5/17: Movement In The Top 3

    alt

There wasn’t a drastic amount of movement this week among the Grinders, so this rankings update will be brief. Nonetheless, the players who were able to make moves did so impressively. The week in rankings can be summarized with four new players on the leaderboard, two double-digit leaps, and one player moving his way up in the top ten. The week in sports can be summarized by a fairly uneventful Conference Semifinals so far in the NBA, an intriguing set up of NHL Conference Finals and the typical ebbs and flows of the long MLB season. So without further ado, here are your Grinder Rankings top headliners of the week. Read More

Another DFBC day is upon us. Last week, we basically gift wrapped a winning roster by suggesting an A’s stack. I don’t particularly see a similarly enticing opportunity this week, so we’ll have to try to hack something together piece by piece. The picks in this space have generally been pretty good of late. For my money, the best play on the board is the gentleman pictured to the left. He should have some fun with the Pirates tonight. Read More

Dr. Dre’s “Still D.R.E” from way back in 2001 is the theme song for today’s Daily Plays. Albert Pujols is STILL Albert Pujols, this week he is looking more and more like himself and the window to get him at a bargain price is closing. Who would have thought that Roy Halladay would be involved in a pitching match up where the starters have combined to go winless in 23 straight starts, sure 18 of those are the wangster Chris Volstad but The Doc (Halladay not Dre) has stuggled his past 5. He is STILL Roy Halladay and some payback against the Cubs is coming. Look for Arizona middle of the order hitters Justin Upton and Miguel Montero to prove they STILL got it also today in Coors Field. Hope you enjoy the daily plays and hopefully you have that Dre song now stuck in your head. (Read More)

We are hoping to bounce back with our daily picks after a rough day yesterday. The picks were bad right from the start as Strasburg got lit up and only lasted 4 innings. Then we had Nelson Cruz getting the night off and most of the other hitters contributing to the bad picks as best as they could. But that is just the nature of fantasy baseball, it’s very up and down. However, today’s picks are going to make up for yesterdays. (Read More)

  • RotoTalk: No Time? Build a Winner Anyway

    alt

As Grinders, we often dedicate significant time and effort into building our daily fantasy baseball lineups. We’re serious. We want to win every day. Sometimes, though, you just don’t have the time to scour all of the stats and angles before the lineup deadline. That doesn’t mean you can’t still field a lineup and get a little action on the day. Today, we’ll discuss a no-frills approach that, while unlikely to field the day’s optimal lineup, is likely to give you a competitive squad. (Read More)

  • Closer Report: May 14th

    alt

There have been fifteen closer changes since the opening of Spring Training. If your daily fantasy baseball is on DraftStreet or FantasyFeud, you need to be up to date on all of the latest, breaking closer news. This is the first edition of the Closer Report. The Closer Report lists Team, Player, Job Security, Second Option and if a change has taken place with its reasoning. Job Security is ranked on a scale of extremely low to extremely high. The changes in the closer role are split between performance based changes (P) and injury based changes (DL). Hopefully this chart can serve as a useful tool, but be sure to always check who has been over-used lately and that might be the right night to pick up a second option guy for dirt cheap. Good luck and keep on grinding. (Read More)

You might have heard of this Josh Hamilton guy, he’s currently terrorizing AL pitching and leading all triple crown categories with a staggering 18 homeruns to go with his .400 average. The price on Hamilton is rising and rising but when a player is this locked in you cant afford to miss out. Today’s daily plays will help with some value to mix in so that you don’t miss out on Hamilton.

The salaries will be tailored towards Daily Joust but most of these value picks should be cheap all around. With only one SP spot on Joust you can’t afford to blow that pick so the goal of today’s daily plays is to use Hamilton and a strong SP with a ton of lower priced value that hits in the top or middle of their batting order. Lots of great starting pitching options today, excellent match ups for Verlander, Hamels, Ricky Romeo, can’t go wrong with any of them. This could be a rough day for hitters, target some of the weaker starters and put a few bats in your line up against each of them. Which top hitter has 5 homeruns against his Sunday opponent? Be shocked to find out he is recommended today. (Read More)

Doc Halladay looks like a no brainer against the Padres, sometimes it pays to differentiate yourself from the group especially when playing a big tournament. Lots of hitting facing some bad pitching, Yankees, Blue Jays, White Sox, Brewers should be able to light up the scoreboard and the high scoring game of the night should be the Dodgers Rockies as all the superstars have great batting vs pitcher splits in that one, runs galore. Only 6 games today featuring an awesome pitching match up in New York, Sabathia vs Price, we stayed away from that game as the pitchers could cancel each other out and if they are both on runs will be hard to come by. Get your ticket for the K festival featuring Stephen Strasburg and Mad Max Scherzer, the strikeouts will be flying between those two. We also continued the bashing of Derek Lowe after he really showed me up by shutting out the Angels the last time he was bashed, is redemption coming or will another battle be lost to the old man Derek Lowe? Happy Wednesday! Only a couple of more days until the weekend. Quick recap of our picks from yesterday: Our pitchers all performed very well. Burnett finished with 10 K’s, Kershaw had a nice game even though he did get stuck with the loss, and Gallardo really pitched well with 8 K’s in a win. The hitter’s weren’t as successful though with no home runs or big games from any of them. But that shouldn’t stop us from turning it around today. Here are our favorite picks for today based on Draftstreet salaries: (Read More)

  • RotoTalk: Surviving Solo

    alt

Daily Joust’s Solo Survivor Tournaments are unlike any other game you’ll encounter in the daily fantasy world. As such, there is a entirely different set of strategies that one needs to employ to take one down. Let’s start by understanding the beast and then craft an approach to slay it. We’ll also construct a lineup for tonight’s May 8th games. (Read More)

We were in for a high-scoring fantasy baseball night last night and hopefully you were as well if you tuned in for yesterday’s Daily MLB Plays. In case you missed them, here are a few highlights: Carlos Zambrano with a complete game shutout, Nelson Cruz with a big game including two doubles and 3 runs, Jay Bruce and Hanley Ramirez both with homers, and Prince Fielder with a solid outing. This was one of our better nights and we will look to keep that going with tonight’s picks. These will be based from Draftstreet player salaries: (Read More)

Mondays are great as we get a whole new set of series to take a look at and besides a front end of the a double header, all the games are scheduled for the evening. I didn’t include Jared Weaver in my analysis today because I’m sure that everyone agrees that using him against the team he just pitched a no hitter against 5 days ago probably qualifies as a good play. Historically, starts after no hitters have not been particularly good (ask Phil Humber), but the Twins suck so bad Weaver should have very few issues putting together a good out. Here are today’s plays and good luck. (Read More)

Some of the better batter vs. pitchers stats came through yesterday with Todd Helton and Mark Teixiera having big games. The stat is not infallible, but day in and day out it provides some decent results. Be sure to check our splits tab for all the top batter vs. pitcher numbers for the day. Here are the Saturday selections. (Read More)

Another week draws to a close with a couple of big qualifying events for the FanDuel and DraftStreet Baseball Championships. There are a lot of useful arms to choose from tonight, so the difference in these big contests will be efficient use of whatever portion of your cap you want to dedicate toward batters. That is, I’m expecting low scores around the majors on Friday night. Yeah, I’d be that guy at the book cheering for the under. I’m such a buzzkill. Let’s make picks. (Read More)

While last night wasn’t the best night for our picks, I did manage to win the qualifier for Draftstreet’s DSBC! While I think it took a whole lot of luck (a complete game shutout from Jerome Williams), I also would like to credit Rotogrinders for their amazing research tools. If you haven’t checked them out, be sure to visit the splits/lineups page each day to help build your team, they certainly make my job easier. But enough about me let’s get to the picks! Since the early game has already started, all of these picks will be for games that start at 6:35 ET or later. Tonight’s games are packed with great pitching so it is going to be hard to find good hitters tonight. (Read More)
