Fanduel is rocking their second huge promo for baseball season, and it’s a good one. The Daily Fantasy Baseball Championship (DFBC) boasts $100,000 in total prizes. Hitting that six figure plateau marks a big moment in daily fantasy. This promotion follows the $50,000 Fanduel Fantasy Football Championship (FFFC) and their $25,000 MLB Opening Day Grand Slam tournament. They’ve combined elements of both promotions in this one, and borrowed some “qualifying” ideas directly from the online poker world to produce their best all around promo yet.

If you haven’t yet, click here to create your Fanduel account and get a deposit bonus of $25 on a $100 deposit, or read our Fanduel review if you’d like to learn more about the site If you enjoy daily fantasy you’re going to want to take part in this.

There are three different ways to qualify for the DFBC final. Each week you can play in a $10 buy in tournament, where the winner gets a seat in the DFBC and runners up get their share of a $2000 prize pool. This works exactly how the FFFC worked in football – each week for 17 weeks one person will win a seat. These 17 qualifiers plus three others will then play in a one day fantasy event on the following week. The three other qualifiers come in through a more creative route – the Iron Man Challenge and the Tournament Kings Contest. One of Fanduel’s marketing guys is a former Full Tilt Poker marketer, and he borrowed some qualifying ideas that will be familiar for anyone who has ever played on a major online poker site.

The IronMan Challenge – This challenge culminates in a freeroll that awards one seat to the DFBC. To qualify for the freeroll, which will be held on August, you must play on Fanduel like an Iron Man. You have to play at least one paid game per day every day between Tuesday, May 24 and Tuesday, August 23. They kindly give you a total of 7 days off total, so you can still take that Disney World vacation you’ve been planning all winter. Many of you grinders already do this, so congrats on getting a seat in the Ironman freeroll. Others will have to step up their play – remember you just need one $5 game per day to qualify, so you don’t have to break the bank.

The Tournament Kings Contest – Two seats will be awarded based on play in Fanduel’s large field events. This is a great promo for the guys that like to take their shots in the big tourneys. All tournaments with at least 100 players OR a $2000 prize pool qualify, which I believe covers all of their tournaments. The person with the most accumulated large field prizes from Monday, May 16 through Tuesday August 23 will win entry into the DFBC. Fanduel will host a leaderboard so that everyone can keep track of where they stand in terms of total winnings for this contest – the location of that leaderboard is yet to be determined. So, #1 on that leaderboard will automatically win a seat. Then, those ranked #2-#21 on that leaderboard will qualify for a freeroll. The winner of that freeroll will win the final seat in the DFBC.

The Daily Fantasy Baseball Championship final will take place after all 20 entries are determined, or about 18 long weeks from now. First place gets an impressive $25K, equaling what GeneralV won in the FFFC.

Whew, that’s a lot to explain, but this is a huge and well thought out promo. If you have any questions about how to qualify or anything else leave them as a comment below or send me a PM and I’ll be sure to answer.

If Fanduel is doing a $100K contest for baseball I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeve for football…

Cal – You got it right about who thought up the ideas for the two special promos.

There are some other details that Cal didn’t mention – runner up prizes in the weekly qualifiers, the Ironman Freeroll, and for the #2-#5 finishers on the Tournament Kings leaderboard. All the details are in the Rules link on the ‘MLB Championship’ tab at Fanduel.

What happens if you win two seats?

Blinders – You can win two seats…and pick two teams in the finals if you’re lucky/good enough to do so. That’s the max though…you can’t win three seats.
