Daily Joust College Football: First Impressions
Wow. What can I say? I had no plans of sitting down at my desk and pumping out a RotoGrinders article, but I just couldn’t help myself when I saw the new Daily Joust college football game. After receiving word that FanDuel didn’t plan on having college football this year, and then I heard Draftstreet wasn’t going to be dropping college pigskin till early October, I was a little disheartened. Then the Daily Joust guys assured me their game would be up and ready for this weekend. I was even more surprised when I looked in an hour before kickoff Thursday night and saw they already had a contest up and running. So I sat down to see what their college game was all about and I was very impressed at what they had done. Here is my pieced together roster for the Thursday deadline along with some notes on what I liked about this game:

First thing you’re probably going to notice is that some of these names are very unfamiliar. Don’t be scared. I barely know some of the guys on my own team also. That’s because the DJ guys did an absolutely phenomenal job at pricing their players and this salary cap. There are no freebies in this game. When I played at snap draft for a couple years, you could basically have your pick of anyone you wanted and you battled stars against stars to see who wins. But in this game you have to dig down and find low priced sleepers. That is a great twist that I wasn’t expecting. I love it. Anyone of us can sit down and choose the top players at each position, but with this game you’re going to have to work with the cap just like you would with any other game. This is legit!
Second thing I would point out is not to be scared away by the thought of an overwhelming player pool. Daily Joust included just about every player I could think of in their pool. It’s nice. But the best part about this is that they have broken down this game and you can play a contest using all NCAA players, or you can lay a game using all SEC players or all top 25 teams, Big 10, expert cap etc… This is a wonderful idea to draw in payers. No longer should anyone feel too much burden of needing to know all the players, just stick to the conference or teams that you know best. Great job on this Joust. I didn’t think I would see this type of game breakdown for years but they pulled it off this year.
Aside from the game play itself, I noticed on the scoreboard feature that when your player is in the redzone, their name lights up in red on Joust. Fantastic feature. Also, just like baseball, you can click on the “NCAA Leaders” icon on live scoring and it brings up the leading scorers at each position for that day.
This game is money and as a longtime college football fantasy player I wouldn’t highly recommend this game. It’s the best I have seen thus far and I know we have a couple other sites about to drop college games soon, but they have a mighty big task on their hands to outdo the Daily Joust game. Well played Joust, well played!
