Martin Prado Daily Fantasy News, Rankings, Projections

Giancarlo Stanton has a 178 wRC+, .406 ISO vs LHP since 2015

Small sample size king Eric Thames leads all batters (min. 30 PA) with a 232 wRC+ (.455 ISO, 54.2 Hard%) since 2015 against the handed type pitcher he is facing tonight and is facing one of tonight's most expensive pitchers (John Lackey). However, Giancarlo Stanton (178 wRC+, .406 ISO) nearly matches him for power against LHP in a much larger sample. He's facing Ariel Miranda (35.6 Hard% vs RHBs career). Mike Trout (170 wRC+, .268 ISO) makes the top five no matter who he's facing (Charlie Morton), but Martin Prado (161 wRC+, .142 ISO) follows his teammate (though with much less power). Freddie Freeman (156 wRC+, .268 ISO vs RHP) rounds out the top five and is sure to be extremely popular against Jered Weaver (.348 wOBA vs RHBs since 2015).

Giancarlo Stanton (169 wRC+, .390 ISO vs LHP since 2015) returns to bat second against fly ball prone lefty

Adam Morgan has been missing bats at a league average rate and generally pitching decently over the last month (3.64 ERA, 3.84 xFIP). At first glance, it doesn't appear a bad spot (Marlins 93 wRC+, 22.6 K%, 10.7 HR/FB vs LHP) at a low cost, but there are some issues with his batted ball profile (0.96 GB/FB, 35.8 Hard%) in a small park and the Marlins have gotten some of their power back in that lineup, including Giancarlo Stanton (169 wRC+, .390 ISO vs LHP since last season) batting second tonight. With RHBs owning a .368 wOBA and 35.9 Hard% against Morgan in his career, all RHBs in this lineup project for some value beyond their price tags in a park that's a boon to RH power. Marcell Ozuna (147 wRC+, .249 ISO vs LHP since 2015) and Martin Prado (160 wRC+, .140 ISO vs LHP since 2015) have hit southpaws extremely well.

Adam Morgan struggles with hard contact in the air, but gets a favorable park switch against ailing Marlins

Adam Morgan has struck out 13 of his last 48 batters with just two walks, but three HRs. A 0.92 GB/FB and 35.9 Hard% are the issues at hand here, but he gets a park upgrade in Miami against an offense with little power (88 wRC+, 9.7 HR/FB at home) and a 22.3 K% vs LHP. With Ozuna joining Stanton on the sidelines (or bench), Jeff Francoeur (.144 ISO) and Martin Prado (.152 ISO) become the power against LHP in this lineup. Don't consider it an endorsement of Morgan as much as an indictment of the Marlins for a low cost. That said, there are a couple of bats worth a look here. RHBs have a .377 wOBA and 35.9 Hard% against Morgan in his career. This lowly lineup is still projected for 4.6 runs. Martin Prado still has a 202 wRC+ vs LHP despite the limited power this year and a 52.6 Hard% over the last week. He may be one of the top values at 3B on FanDuel ($3.1K). Destin Hood immediately becomes viable as a RHB in the second spot for $2.6K on either site without even having to know anything else about him (there's not really anything interesting to know).

Despite the loss of Stanton, Marlins retain to strong bats (Prado & Ozuna) vs LHP

The Marlins may be quite a bit more pleasant for a LHP without Giancarlo Stanton for the rest of the season, Brandon Finnegan still has the second highest walk (11.7%) and hard hit (38.3%) rates among qualified pitchers making that thought much less appealing. RHBs have a .334 wOBA against him since last season with that same 38 Hard%, while the Marlins retain two strong RHBs against LHP in this lineup. One without power in Prado (158 wRC+, .138 ISO vs LHP since last season), but with 145 wRC+ and 40.9 Hard% over the last week and one with power in Ozuna (157 wRC+, .251 ISO vs LHP since 2015), but currently slumping (14 wRC+ over the last week). However, Ozuna costs $700 less than Prado and is under $4K on DraftKings, which has to make him a strong value play there, while both may add something beyond a price tag $500 cheaper than that on FanDuel. You may wonder why Ichiro is hitting sixth against a LHP and we can only guess it's his 112 wRC+ against them since 2015, though with absolutely no power. J.T. Realmuto has just an 85 wRC+ vs LHP since last season and even worse this year with very little power.

Carlos Rodon has between 5.2 and 7 IP In 15 of 18 starts with 6 to 8 Ks 13 times

Carlos Rodon has continued to struggle with RHBs (.373 wOBA & 16 of his 17 HRs), but has been remarkably consistent overall, pitching between 5.2 and seven innings in 15 of his 18 starts. He’s struck out between six to eight batters (but never more) in 13 of those 18. That's kind of outing should cover his price tag, especially for just $6.4K on DraftKings in a fairly neutral spot. Despite his issues with RHBs, he still has a league average 12.6 K-BB% and 28% hard hit rate against them. The major difference is his GB rate drops16 points and his weak contact rate 6.8 points to 16%. The Marlins have three lefty mashers in Stanton, Ozuna, and Prado, all of whom have a wRC+ above 150 vs LHP since last season, while only Prado (average power) doesn't have an ISO vs LHP above .300 this season. While these bats aren't cheap, only Stanton can really be considered expensive here and all are in play, but the lineup then fills out with bats that are only average or worse with very little power. Adeiny Hechavarria's .118 ISO vs LHP is fourth highest in tonight's lineup. This is a matchup which may have advantages on both sides.

Marlins have three lefty mashers (160+ wRC+ vs LHP) against an overpriced Matt Moore

Matt Moore has just a 2.45 ERA over the last month, but estimators more than double with just a 16.2 K%, 11.8 BB% and .213 BABIP. Three of his 12 runs have also been unearned. His $8K or higher price tag in this spot is unwarranted in a somewhat neutral matchup. RHBs have a .334 wOBA against Moore since last season and the Marlins do have three batters (Stanton, Prado, and Ozuna) who hammer LHP, all with a wRC+ above 160 since last season. Stanton adds a .403 ISO against southpaws since 2015, Ozuna .351 ISO this season, and Prado just about average power (.145 ISO). None are particularly cheap, except Prado for $2.7K on FanDuel. For those looking for a punt catcher, Jeff Mathis has a 129 wRC+ and .231 ISO vs LHP since last season and costs just $2.5K or less on either site (the bare minimum on FD).

Marlins implied run total has increased to 5.6 runs, giving them the highest projection on the slate

Jorge de la Rosa (4.75 SIERA) is not a great pitcher with even less impressive control (10.1% BB%). It could just be an anomaly but de la Rosa has actually pitched better at Coors Field this season (50.5% GB%, 25.2% Hard%) than on the road. Given the overall pitching profile of de la Rosa, we should just chalk it up to small sample size and variance because he does not have the kind of stuff that typically plays well at Coors. The only positive thing to say about De La Rosa is that he gets above average ground balls (48.0%), but not at an elite enough level to cause a problem for guys like Giancarlo Stanton (150 wRC+, .397 wOBA, .316 ISO vs LHP) or Marcell Ozuna (191 wRC+, .458 wOBA, .363 ISO vs LHP). Martin Prado (196 wRC+, .466 wOBA) doesn't have a ton of power upside but has absolutely raked against left-handed pitching this season making him a nice filler in Miami stack.

Dee Gordon returns from suspension at home against Wacha

Michael Wacha is a perfectly average pitcher (20.1 K%, 4.37 ERA, 4.22 SIERA, 3.96 xFIP). These are the pitchers players may have to attack tonight on a strong slate with a lot of high priced pitching and only six offenses projected for even four runs tonight. The Marlins are one of those (barely - 4.11) and Giancarlo Stanton (124 wRC+, .259 ISO vs RHP since 2015) is it's top bat and one of just two with any power vs RHP. RHBs have a .320 wOBA against Wacha since 2015, but just a 29 Hard%. He's fared better against LHBs (.289 wOBA), which is part of the reason a higher priced Yelich (154 wRC+, .204 ISO vs RHP this season) may be less viable. Other bats to consider who might not be highly owned and cost $3.5K or less on either site are Marcell Ozuna (109 wRC+, .168 ISO vs RHP this season) and Martin Prado (90 wRC+ vs RHP this season) who has a 204 wRC+ over the last week. Derek Dietrich remains in the lineup due to the hole at 1B, but drops down further in the order. The two through six batters all have a hard hit rate above 36% over the last week, which could make them an interesting contrarian stack tonight.

Miami looks to start Zach Eflin down the road to regression

With Dee Gordon expected back in action tomorrow, this afternoon likely marks the last time we'll see J.T. Realmuto in the leadoff spot for awhile. On the surface, Zach Eflin's 3.40 ERA and 1.05 WHIP look quiet impressive, but digging deeper reveals potential trouble on the horizon as his 4.92 SIERA is screaming for a regression and a 12.8% strikeout rate highlights his inability to make opposing batters swing and miss. The top five of this batting order all look like fine options this afternoon and are rather reasonably priced across the industry.

Marcell Ozuna has 258 wRC+ and .452 ISO vs LHP this year

Pat Dean has a 20.9 K%, but just a 6.6 SwStr% and has not had a strikeout rate above 15% at any level of the minor leagues since rookie ball in 2011. He has allowed RHBs a .366 wOBA and 34.3 Hard% so far. Despite the slump (14 wRC+ last seven days) Giancarlo Stanton has a 42.9 Hard% over the last week and a 186 wRC+ with a .449 ISO vs LHP since last season. He's a top OF bat for less than $4.5K tonight, while we could say the same for Marcell Ozuna (258 wRC+, .452 ISO vs LHP this season) at the same price. Martin Prado has a 127 wRC+ vs LHP since last year for less than $3.5K and Christian Yelich has hit LHP well this year (130 wRC+) and is swinging a hot bat (198 wRC+, 45 Hard%) for less than $4K. The two through five spots look very strong in this lineup at affordable prices.
