There isn’t anything that jumps off the page when looking at Suter’s stats, but he continues to produce at a high level. He has scored at least 16 fantasy points (DK scoring) in nine of his last ten starts, which shows how high of a floor he has. His great control allows him to pitch deep into games even though he rarely cracks the 100-pitch mark. His matchup against the Twins is enticing, as they have struggled to hit left-handed pitching all season. In fact, their projected lineup has a .301 xwOBA with a 25% k-rate against southpaws. Suter is cheap and is one of my favorite value plays of the slate.

We don't have a lot of cheap options tonight, and that's why I really like Brent Suter. The Twins rank 24th in team wOBA against lefties, and their wRC+ is under 90. They also have the third-lowest team ISO against lefties this season. The projected starting lineup has a .143 ISO with a .313 wOBA and a 21.2% strikeout rate. Suter doesn't offer a lot of upside, but against this team, I could see clean innings and possibly pitching 6+ innings. He doesn't typically walk hitters, and his hard to soft contact ratio is 11.9%, which is excellent. He also tends to pitch ahead in counts, which is another reason to like him on this slate.

Suter will never wow you with his upside potential, but he's a serviceable SP #2 choice on a short seven game Thursday evening slate. The Cardinals are not as imposing of a matchup as they might seem on paper, especially since the lineup can't seem to stay healthy. Now Jose Martinez is dealing with a shoulder injury, and a potential absence from him really makes this lineup thin. Suter doesn't walk anyone and throws a lot of strikes, so there's a clear path to a quality start here. I'll do everything I can to get Scherzer on the single pitcher sites tonight, but Suter is in play on DK/FDRAFT as your second choice.

When looking at this slate, we don't have a lot of options in the mid to low tier for pitching. I think both pitchers in this game are in play, and like I mentioned with Chad Kuhl, there is a really good pitcher's ump in this game. Suter has pitched well this season and has just enough strikeout ability to be in play here. He should face six righties and the pitchers spot tonight. He also has a .334 wOBA with a .208 ISO against righties this season. That doesn't tell the whole story though. Suter has a 20.5% soft contact rate with an average exit velocity of 83.4 and a much lower xFIP than ERA. You always worry about the home runs when it comes to Suter against righties, but outside of Marte, these righties have shown any power this season.

If you want to go cheap on the mound tonight in order to spend up on some priority bats, Suter makes a lot of sense. He's a slightly above average arm who doesn't beat himself. His walk rate sits at a very respectable 5.1% this season, and he draws a decent matchup against the Pirates in a hitter-friendly park this evening. His SIERA and xFIP are both right around 4.00, and I would expect him to pitch well at PNC Park. The only negative is that the Pirates don't really enhance strikeout upside, but there really isn't a ton of upside with any of the other cheap arms tonight, making Suter my favorite of the bunch.

Look, this slate isn't great for low priced pitching options, so you have to take them where you can get them. Suter is a decent pitcher on the year and doesn't really do anything terrible. On the year, Suter owns a decent 19.2% K rate, 4.8% walk rate, and a 4.24 xFIP. He does strike out righties at a much higher rate than lefties (which the White Sox should end up with 5 or 6 of in their lineup) and the lineup they're currently rolling out owns a sky high 26.6% K rate. Suter is more of a GPP play on this slate, but if you're thinking about him in cash then the main thing you have to worry about is giving up bombs (Suter gives up a lot of hard contact) and as long as no one his on base when this happens, his floor really isn't that bad.
