If you’re growing tired of tedious snake drafts or the typical salary-cap format, DailyMVP will be a welcome breath of fresh air. Available on the web (DailyMVP.com) as well as on your mobile devices (iOS, download from the App Store), this simple yet skillful game format is based on player projections; choose three players from three different teams that will outperform their DailyMVP projection, and you’re the winner. DailyMVP offers daily fantasy contests for both the MLB (Triple Play) and NBA (Fast Break), and will branch out to the NFL when the 2014-2015 season rolls around.

Game Offerings

The DailyMVP format is a great way for people who are new to the “daily” aspect of fantasy sports to get a grasp on how a players value can change from one match-up to the next. Owned and operated by TopLine Game Labs, this is unlike any game you’ll find in the daily fantasy sports industry to date. To play, you select three players – a guard, forward and center for NBA and a pitcher, infielder and outfielder for MLB – from three different teams. The goal isn’t just to score the most points, as you’re still searching for the best “value” in the field. Instead, the goal is to find players who outperform their individual projection for that day. This aspect is one of the things that makes DailyMVP’s offerings so unique; instead of simply drafting players who will perform at a high level, you’re selecting them based on how they will perform above or below their projection.

Before each contest, the playing field is leveled between you and your opponent by applying the “Fantasy Equalizer”. For example, if your team is projected to score 50 points while your opponent is suppose to hit 65, your score will be “equalized” with your opponents’ and you will be given 15 points to start the game. This is why selecting value plays becomes more important than just picking the Kevin Durant of the world. Because both teams start at the same point total, finding players who will outperform their projection is vital.

DailyMVP is a head-to-head format for now, but larger leagues are in the future plans. For now, all you have to do is outscore your opponent to double your money! Leagues are offered at several different buy-in levels (from FREE up to $100), so it’s a place where both low and high stakes Grinders can find something that appeals to them.

Software & Interface

The interface created for DailyMVP is a dynamic site design that, as mentioned above, allows users to access all site features on any platform or device. The home page is simple to use and easy on the eyes, with the game lobby being readily available. Once you’re on the homepage, just select a sport and you’ll be taken to the game lobby, where you can select the contest duration (early/late slates) and buy-in amount. Once you’ve customized your contest, just draft your team and wait for the games to begin!

The draft lobby is nice from a visual standpoint, but especially with the MLB contests, it’s just too large and takes too long to scroll through. I like how they show you how they came up with each projection by giving you a projected stat total for each category, but it’s tough to view more then four or five players in the lobby at a time. That’s a problem when you’re trying to sort through 100+ infielders, since it’s nice to be able to compare each player your considering to a larger portion of the field in one glance. This DailyMVP Review would like to see that page condensed so you can draft your players in a more concise area.

Mobile Offering

The Mobile Offering at DailyMVP is certainly a plus for an up-and-coming site. The site that you can access from your laptop transitions seamlessly onto your phone or tablet, and is not just a simplified version of their standard site; it has all of the same capabilities compared to the web version. Download the app from the Apple App Store to check it out for yourself.

Rake & Cashier

The rake is set at a standard 10% for all leagues. This is an area of improvement for DailyMVP, as most sites offer reduced rake at higher buy-in levels. For true Grinders, that is definitely an addition that would be more enticing, especially considering that other new sites lower their rake in order to drive new traffic to the site. Deposits ($10 minimum) and withdrawals are being processed via PayPal, which makes things quick and easy for both parties.
