MLB DFS Top Stacks: Thursday, May 2nd

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play. In this article, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections that are available in our MLB Lineup Optimizer, LineupHQ. However, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

“IT’S THE RANGERSSTACK

Rangers vs. Mitchell Parker

Mitchell Parker is off to a roaring start as a major league pitcher, with a 1.69 ERA across 3 starts this season. But I’m finding it hard to believe that he’s suddenly figured it out after a 4.72 ERA across two minor league levels last season. He had some good swing-and-miss stuff in the minors, but he always seemed to get himself in a bit of trouble, walking over 60 batters in each of the last 2 seasons.

My best guess is he’s just going to be a streaky guy. I’m getting some Hunter Brown vibes in the sense that the wicked stuff is there, but the control and hard contact are going to be issues. For every great Brown start, there have been 2 or 3 more that left you scratching your head. Will we be scratching our heads after Parker’s 4th start today?

Texas has the 7th-lowest walk rate and the 4th-highest strikeout rate vs. LHP this season. That’s not great, but it’s the Rangers! We know this lineup has immense talent, and they have the highest implied run total on the board (5.05).

I am usually a full-stack guy, but since we have just 5 games, I think you can get away with a 4-hitter stack (on DraftKings), especially in smaller-field stuff to play a little more optimal. I’m especially on board with it if settling on that 4-man stack means that you can get both Edward Cabrera and Nathan Eovaldi in your build. My stance is that both of them are in a pitching tier of their own on this slate. And if you build a few lineups with both of those highest-priced arms on the slate, you might have to step out of your full-stack comfort zone to make it work.

Why is that tied into the Rangers? Three of their best players (Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, and Adolis Garcia) are all within the top 10 most expensive bats on DraftKings. I’m not so sure Parker will get destroyed, but he could certainly have an accident or two. And one of those pricey Texas bats could break the slate if a few ducks are on the pond when the loud contact inevitably occurs. So, if you like Texas but only have 4 Rangers, don’t let it give you anxiety…just roll with it today.
