Super Joust NBA 101: Strategies For Qualifying
When the news arrived that Daily Joust was going to run another Super Joust contest for basketball season, I was obviously pretty excited. If you don’t know, I had a pretty solid showing in the inaugural Super Joust and took home about $6,000 in cash and a pair of Super Bowl tickets (which I parlayed into another $5,000). It was without question the most exciting, yet stressful time I’ve had playing Daily Fantasy, but now it’s time to defend the crown. This time around they are doing another $10,000 prize pool with winner also getting a pair of tickets to the NBA Finals.
Even though I’ve had quite a bit of success on Daily Joust, I like to think of myself as a giving guy. So I’m going to go through a quick rundown on the easiest ways to get into the Super Joust tournament on April 18th.
Super Joust 101: Strategies For Qualifying
Unlike some other qualifying tournaments, what makes the Super Joust great is that you don’t need to have the biggest bankroll or play the high stakes to earn a spot in the tournament. A lot of the qualifications are based on the score you achieve or number of wins you have , not necessarily how much money you have won. Let’s go through the list and I’ll give you some hints on how to make them work for you.
- Winner of any $500 Northern Knights NHL Tournament
- Winner of any $500 or $1000 King James NBA Tournament
- Winner of any $500 Grand Duke CBB Tournament
- Winner of any other designated “Super Joust Qualifier” Tournament
- Winner of any $300 King John Tournament in NBA, NHL or CBB
There is no question that playing that playing large field tournaments is not the ideal way to maintain a small bankroll, but if you can afford to throw a team or two into one of the tournaments you should. The King John tournaments are only $5 entry while the others are $10, so even though the odds are not in your favor that you are going to win, there is a good chance if you take one down you may actually walk away with 2 Super Joust entries. How?
- Jouster with the NHL high-score of a weekly period
- Jouster with the CBB high-score of a weekly period
- Jouster with the NBA high-score of a weekly period
The fact of the matter is if you have a good enough score to beat a field of 50 or 100, there is a good chance that score may be good to hold on as high score for a weekly period. I know that happened on several occasions during the first Super Joust. This qualification is also perfect for lower stakes players as it doesn’t matter if you achieve a high score in $5 game or $50.
- The 3 Jousters with the most friend referrals qualified (between Jan 20th and Apr 15th).
You can’t beat getting an entry into a limited field tournament with a $10,000 prize pool simply by inviting friends to play Daily Fantasy. On top of that, Daily Joust gives you (and your friend) $20 after they make a deposit and play a cash contest. So I guess it’s possible to get an entry without playing a single game.
- Top 3 Jousters with most NHL heads-up wins of each calendar month starting with remainder of January (starting Jan 20th ), February, March, and April up to Apr 15th.
- Top 3 Jousters with most CBB heads-up wins of each calendar month starting with remainder of January (starting Jan 20th ), February, March, and April up to Apr 15th.
- Top 3 Jousters with most NBA heads-up wins of each calendar month starting with remainder of January (starting Jan 20th ), February, March, and April up to Apr 15th.
This one is definitely for the high volume players, but not necessarily high stakes players. Since it is based on “wins” not “cash won”, so 10 $5 wins count as much as 1 $50 win.
- Top 40 Jousters with the most Daily Joust Badges earned (between Jan 20th and Apr 15th).
This is probably the easiest way to get into the Super Joust. Unlike last year which counted Badges won prior to the Super Joust, this go around everyone starts at on a level playing field. The key to getting into the top 40 is not about playing the most games, it about selection of which games you play. Daily Joust has a ton of ways to earn badges and most of them are pretty easy. First off, if you ever see a player with 3 Stars next to name and they are waiting for a their game to be picked up, jump on it. The 3 Stars means they are a Top 10 Jouster in that particular sport and a win vs. them earns you a badge. So between CBB, NHL, NBA you have 30 available and the Top 10 rankings continually change so there will more than that. Just playing head 2 head contests are also a great way to get badges because you earn a different badge for each dollar amount won. So between $5, $10, $20, $50 in each sport you can walk away with 12 new badges.
