WR & TE Kings: Week 3

Week 2 Recap

Hopefully you took my advice and paid for a discounted Jordy Nelson last week. If you had him you probably won your H2H’s and 50-50’s. On the other hand, if you didn’t have him and your opponent did, you probably lost. Jordy finished Week 2 with nine catches for 209 yards including an 80 yard TD. The tight end position also saw a monster performance from a familiar name, Jimmy Graham. Graham posted an elite stat line as well: 10 catches, 118 yards and 2 TD’s. If you were smart enough to pair these two together, your bankroll most likely headed in the right direction. But now, on to Week 3.

Wide Receiver

Calvin Johnson ($8900) – The value is available this week at multiple positions to make rostering Calvin possible. The match-up is great against a weak GB secondary and Vegas lines anticipate a high scoring affair (O/U 53). This week provides a great opportunity to pay up for the league’s best wide receiver.

Dez Bryant ($7700) – Dez is the second most skilled WR in league, right behind the aforementioned Calvin Johnson. The Dallas offense looked much better in Week 2 and the dominance of DeMarco Murray will open up many more opportunities for the passing game. The St. Louis defense is nothing to be scared of (a mediocre 20th in RotoGrinders’ Defense vs. WR tool and I fully expect Dallas to put up some points.

Randall Cobb ($7500) – Targeting guys in the projected shootout in Detroit will be a winning strategy this week. Yes, Jordy Nelson is an excellent play, however I cannot justify paying his price tag with it being so close to Calvin. Therefore, I will gladly take a stab at Randall Cobb who has been very solid in the first two weeks of the season (17.8 and 23.5 DK FPs).

Keenan Allen ($6000) – The price on Allen has dropped quite a bit after facing two very tough pass defenses (Arizona/Seattle). Things will certainly lighten up for him week 3 when the Chargers take on the Buffalo Bills. Allen proved last season that he is very capable of putting up elite numbers at the WR position. I have Allen ranked right around #10 at the WR position this week and his price certainly does not reflect that.

GPP

Brandon Marshall ($8300) – Marshall will go under owned this week due to his price tag being so close to Jordy and Calvin. Marshall pulled in three TDs last week against a solid SF defense. This week he gets one of the leagues worst secondaries in the Jets. The potential for another huge game is present and his ownership will definitely be low.

Tight End

Rob Gronkowski ($5900) – Gronk’s services were not needed last week in the Patriot’s quick blowout last week. The unfortunate thing about this pick is the fact that NE is a 14 point favorite this week, therefore the possibility of a blowout is yet again present. However, the $5900 price on a guy that easily capable of putting up a three TD performance mitigates the risk.

Zach Ertz ($5200) – This guy is going to be a solid TE in the league for many years to come. He gets the benefit of playing for the leagues fastest moving offense. Ertz’s targets are going far down the field as he is averaging over 23 yards per catch. The Eagles are projected to be one of the higher scoring teams in Week 3 and I don’t expect the Redskin’s defense to offer much resistance.

Larry Donnell ($4000)- The Giants are not a very good football team and their offense appears to be awful once again this year. However, Eli manning appears to be locked in on Donnell, as he has been targeted heavily in the first two weeks of the season (nine and eight targets, in RotoGrinders’ TE Targets tool). The $4000 price on a guy that is receiving this type of QB attention leaves you a great opportunity to spend up elsewhere.

GPP

Martellus Bennett ($5200) – With all the other big name TEs at reasonable prices, Bennett will be overlooked by many. Bennett has been very solid in this young season as he has found the endzone in each of the first two games. I expect Chicago to be pass heavy, which appears to be the way to beat the Jets.
