Fanball NFL Auction Breakdown: Week 7 - Friday, October 19th

RG Exclusive Offer: Deposit $20 on Fanball and get a $20 bonus!

Hey everyone, welcome to the Fanball NFL Auction breakdown. If you haven’t played on this site before, it’s a product unlike anything you’ve ever seen before in DFS. They will be offering an Auction-style format drafting with four players on the board at all times, meaning you have to be on your toes and be aware of what is going on, because split-second mistakes can be costly.

Each team must draft 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, and 1 TE. No player can be left on the board at the end of the draft, so if you are the last player not to draft a TE, then when the last TE goes on the board you will autodraft them for $1.

There are four players up for auction at all times, so you need to be able to adlib on the fly if someone goes drastically over or under what you are projecting to pay for them. You can find the full scoring system for Fanball NFL here.

Be sure to check out Kevin Cole’s overall look at his projected values before my breakdown below.

Friday, October 19th

Quarterback

Patrick Mahomes – $15
Jared Goff – $10
Andy Dalton – $8
C.J. Beathard – $2
Alex Smith – $2
Dak Prescott – $1

Mahomes, Goff, Dalton – This group right here is heads and tails above the next three QBs. As of right now, I have Mahomes projected for six points more than the fourth-best QB here and Goff and Dalton are at four and three respectively. Today is a real pay up for QB spot, and luckily the majority of the last few days, QB has been a fungible position. With Gurley on the board, people are likely to save their money until later in the draft. If one of these top tier QBs go on the board early, hop on them because you can probably get them at a discount.

Beathard, Smith, Prescott – Honestly, I don’t want to get stuck with any of these guys. The smart move here is to just avoid them until the end of the draft, or if the top three QBs are off the board, then spend a dollar on whoever you already have a receiver or TE pair with.

Running Back

Todd Gurley – $31
Joe Mixon – $20
Christian McCaffrey – $20
Alvin Kamara – $18
Sony Michel – $15
James White – $8
Tarik Cohen – $7
Matt Breida – $7
Mark Ingram – $7
Jordan Howard – $3
Corey Clement – $3
Kerryon Johnson – $1

Gurley – In this player pool, you want Gurley on your team, but there’s something you have to watch out for. If Gurley ends up going late in the draft, you have to be aware of how much money other people have left and who still needs a RB. There is always a chance that when Gurley comes on the board that someone is going to be able to outbid you and you will likely get stuck with $30 left over at the end of the draft.

McCaffrey, Mixon, Sony, Kamara – Normally, RB is the position where there is the biggest dropoff from the top to the bottom, but aside from Gurley, RB is more balanced than usual. To me, these four RBs are clearly a tier above the next seven, but are by no means a requirement to take down a draft. Paying a decent chunk of change for any of these guys is probably the best idea for a draft, but if you can’t get any of them, you still have a decent chance of winning.

White, Cohen, Ingram, Bredia – These guys are probably my favorite four RBs to pay for in this player pool. All of these RBs have a chance to score around the same as the four above them, and all have pass catching abilities that give them a solid floor. In this player pool, it’s not a bad idea to pay up at other positions and to try and get three of these RBs in your lineup at an extreme discount.

Howard, Clement, Johnson – Try to avoid these three RBs in the draft as they are a significant dropoff from the top tiers. The only reason you should end up with one of these guys is if you’re trying to pay up for Gurley and he doesn’t go until late in the draft.

Wide Receiver

Adam Thielen – $25
Tyreek Hill – $20
A.J. Green – $15
Deandre Hopkins – $13
Mike Evans – $13
Stefon Diggs – $12
Josh Gordon – $9
Golden Tate – $7
Taylor Gabriel – $3
Paul Richardson – $2
Albert Wilson – $1
Terrelle Pryor – $1

Thielen and Hill – To me, these two guys are the only people really worth paying a king’s ransom for in this draft, but they almost always require you to pay more than you should for them. It’s worth keeping in mind where they are going in the draft as you may be able to snag them at a discount if people are saving their money for Gurley late in the draft.

Green, Hopkins, Evans, Diggs, Gordon, Tate – To me, this is the range you want to try to get your WRs in this draft. All of these WRs are a drastic improvement over the bottom four and only a slight dropoff from Hill and Thielen. The smart move is to just bid on any of these guys when they become available and try to get any of them in the single digits. If none of them go at a discount, then that just means there are some players at other positions that will come in too cheap. (Keep in mind that Hopkins is questionable this weekend, but I expect him to play, so you may get him very cheap).

Richardson, Wilson– Realistically, either of these WRs could end up sinking your team or could end up helping you take down the contest. It’s a real boom or bust spot here that you should watch throughout the draft, but if you get stuck with one of these three, then it’s not the worst thing in the world.

Pryor – Pryor has just been downgraded to doubtful and should be avoided at all costs. If you get him, he may end up costing you the draft.

Tight End

Travis Kelce – $22
Zach Ertz – $21
Jordan Reed – $7
David Njoku – $7
O.J. Howard – $1
C.J. Uzomah – $1

Ertz and Kelce – These two TEs are clearly in a tier above the rest and should be given priority. With this being a Gurley draft, people will likely be saving money. If Ertz or Kelce come up early in the draft then there’s a decent chance that you can get them at a discount, but if they pop up later in the draft, there’s a decent chance someone is going to have way too much money left over and are forced to draft them, leaving you stuck paying $20 for Howard.

Reed and Njoku – Reed and Njoku are a big downgrade from the top TEs, but a pretty big upgrade from Uzomah and Howard. The best strategy for TE is to try and scoop up one of these guys at a discount early on in the draft.

Howard and Uzomah – Just don’t pay over $1 for these two TEs.

The Stack Spots

As we all know, in football DFS, pairing your QB with a WR or TE can have a drastic effect on your upside in any given competition and auction-style like this is no different. As you can clearly see from the player pool, each QB has WRs and/or TE’s which you can pair with them to raise your upside. Below is my favorite stacking spot.

Mahomes with Hill and Kelce – This is a tough task to pull of and in all likelihood, you will end up with only two of the three players here, but if early on in the draft you can get two at a drastic discount, it’s not impossible.

Remember guys, keep an eye out for what’s happening in your draft and if guys are going for way less than they are projected for here, you should know that some of these prices may be too low. Likewise, if guys are going for higher than the above price early on you can get a lot of these guys at a huge discount.
