Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?

STLCardinals84: Hello, offense! Check out the implied team totals that we have on this slate. The Rockies and Red Sox sit with implied run totals well over seven runs. The Twins aren’t far behind at 6.3 runs. The Angels, Dodgers, Mets, and Rangers are all over five. There’s a lot to love with bats tonight, and there isn’t much to love on the mound. Expect a high scoring slate.

MrTuttle: Cheap SP gets ugly fast after Jose Suarez. Both Taylor Clarke and Zach Eflin seem likely to be on relativley strict pitch counts which limits their upside – Taylor threw just 59 pitches in his last start in AAA and Eflin hasn’t topped 28 pitches since late July.

Fathalpert: Jose Suarez has a 2.74 HR/9 ratio and has allowed at least one home run in 9 of his 10 appearance.

What is your hot take of the day?

STLCardinals84: Jacob deGrom outscores every other pitcher on the slate by at least 12 DK points and 20 FD points.

MrTuttle: Eduardo Rodriguez racks up 10+ strikeouts.

Fathalpert: Asher Wojciechowski baffles the Red Sox again and finishes with 7 strikeouts

Who is your top overall pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

STLCardinals84: Jacob deGrom – This is an easy choice. All of the other expensive pitchers on this slate feel overpriced, especially when you consider how poorly guys like Eduardo Rodriguez have been pitching of late. deGrom draws a great matchup here against a Royals team that has scored a total of four runs over their last three games. They have been shut out by the likes of Dakota Hudson this week. deGrom’s talent is obvious, with a SIERA and xFIP in the low threes along with a healthy 31.6% strikeout rate. No other pitcher on this slate touches his combination of safety and upside. Find a way to make the salary work, even if it means sacrificing a bat.

MrTuttle: Eduardo Rodriguez – In a world where there are no salary constraints Jacob deGrom would be Saturday’s top option. Alas, we live in no such world and Eduardo Rodriguez offers a massive $3,100 discount from deGrom on FanDuel and is $2,600 cheaper on DraftKings. Rodriguez has been far from consistent this season but draws an excellent home matchup against an Orioles offense that leads the league with a 26.3% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching and owns the fifth worst wRC+ (86).

Fathalpert: Jacob deGrom – There is nobody at the high end with the type of upside and leash that deGrom has. I will point out that the Royals rank just 20th in K% against right-handed pitching so this isn’t an elite strikeout matchup, but I’m hoping the 31.6 K% from deGrom can lead some K’s and easy innings.

Who is your top overall hitter (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

STLCardinals84: Charlie Blackmon – While I like the savings that you can get with Daniel Murphy should he bat cleanup for the Rockies, I’m not convinced that he will start. They have been using Yonder Alonso more of late, and Murphy has been slumping for a while now. For that reason, I’ll pivot to Blackmon for the second straight day. Yes, the Rockies struggled as a whole last night, scoring just three runs despite owning a 7+ team total. Don’t be fooled by a one game sample size. As I wrote yesterday, Blackmon owns a career .423 wOBA and .250 ISO in home games against RHP, and he should push for five at-bats in this game. He’s healthy again and still owns solid numbers this year when he has been healthy. Expect a better performance from him and from the team as a whole this evening.

MrTuttle: Trevor Story – Essentially every Rockies hitter is in play in all formats on Saturday night in a home game against Hector Noesi but Trevor Story gets the nod as my favorite option. Story is arguably the top hitter on the slate in terms of raw projection and has relatively little competition as he headlines a weak SS position. Noesi has been poor through his two Major League starts this season due to his inability to generate soft contact (13.8 Soft%) and induce ground balls (27.6 GB%).

Fathalpert: Daniel Murphy – I was all over Murphy as a core play yesterday and then the Rockies decided to start Yonder Alonso. So assuming Murphy is back in the lineup hitting cleanup, I love the game environment, potential lineup spot but most importantly the savings he provides. He hasn’t been great this season statistically but he allows you to get Coors and deGrom exposure without breaking the bank.
