PGA DFS Core Plays: Waste Management Phoenix Open
Top-ranked grinder, Notorious, breaks down his favorite daily fantasy golf plays at various salary ranges for the coming week’s golf tournament. Who should you be building around? Find out below.
Core Plays
It was a rough week for the core plays at the Farmers Insurance Open. I tried to build a narrative to support my Rickie Fowler pick, but he ended up missing the cut on the number after missing a couple of short putts on the easy course on Friday. Course history truthers were able to rejoice, as Fowler has now struggled at Torrey Pines in each of the last seven seasons. Tiger Woods played well, but he didn’t give us any leverage on the field because Rory McIlroy and John Rahm both finished higher than him in terms of fantasy scoring.
We’ll try to bounce back this week at the Waste Management Open. This is one of my favorite tournaments of the year. It’s a party crowd in Scottsdale and we get to watch the golfers sweat with 20,000 fans screaming at them on the par three 16th. In terms of the type of golfer to target, I’m placing a big weight on strokes gained off the tee. You can essentially hit driver on all non par-threes here, so off the tee will be critical. I always give a big weight to strokes gained approach, so essentially I’m looking to load up on ball strikers. Avoiding the big number here is also critical, which makes bogey avoidance important.
