All I want for X-mas (DFS edition)
Ah it’s that time of the year again.
It is time to sit down over some hot cocoa and look back over the year that was in daily fantasy sports. It seems that each year finishes faster and faster, but with another ending upon us, here is a small list of “wants” or even “gripes” I have with the year that was 2014.
Everyone snuggled in and ready? LET“S GO!
We need a few more DK or FD commercials please.
- This is my number one issue of the year and by golly, I am going to mention it. According to my research (which was totally made up on the spot and has no scientific backing), Daily Fantasy Sports grew 400000% this year. While this can be considered a good thing for you and me, it also brought along with it the slew of new commercials showing on ESPN, Fox sports, Cartoon Network, Food Network, etc.
I honestly do not think a person could go over 30 seconds without seeing one of these commercials and that it is a bad thing! We need more of these commercials and need them to run faster than ever. We need a slew of new commercials hitting our brains every nano second within every possible output available to mankind. I am talking radio, TV, newspapers, comic books, large print, small print, picture books, children’s books, back of milk cartons, front of milk cartons, sides of all busses, and of course the internet.
I don’t believe I am being snarky when I say “Give us more”! There are avenues still available to melt our brains with and there are still more champions you can interview letting me know that they won four million dollars using only a subway token they found in the street. “Saturate the market!” I say, you have all these new resources…..use them!
and while we are on that subject…..
Everyone get together and see what works!
This one is a personal peeve. There is no reason in this day and age that one site would have a few cool features, while the other has a few different ones. I know they are all supposed to be “competitors” , but it’s just smart business to see what works with other sites and incorporate it on you own. Online gaming companies do this all the time, and it seems to work for them. (As I write this I have Destiny up and running on the PS4)
The mobile app should be easy to use and efficient. The website should be stable and use a slick UI, allowing me to see all players or teams at all times. If I want to switch out a player, this should be a simple and enjoyable process, not a chore that requires fifteen different screens and four different monitors. (I exaggerate but you get the idea)
Remember, WE are the consumer make US happier with simple yet easy additions and WE spend more money…which helps YOU.
Let’s all get along too!
- RG is an amazing website full of helpful and insightful information and ideas. From time to time a “grinch” will hit the forums blasting anyone and everyone that moves….or arguments will break out regarding jealousy toward a certain player or players. Remember, a community is what helps this idea grow and prosper and there are an incredible amount of smart people willing to share ideas, strategies and insights with the masses.
Take a second and thank them and try and remember they do not have to offer this service. I am not asking for all of us to hug and sing campfire songs, just to enjoy the melting pot of minds and opinions that is the RG website. (And pretty much the world)
If someone wins here and there, congratulate them and smile a little. If Condia or one of the “sharks” kicks your ass in a head to head contest, bite your lip and learn something from the process. (Not picking on Condia as I do not know the man..just making a point)
Smile…live and let live….hakuna matata…etc
Have a little fun
- This one is the easiest of them all. Daily fantasy sports playing isn’t a job. No one is working out of a fantasy coal mine. Not one person ever has walked into the living room and wiped their brow from another long day of DFS sports “work”. (If you have that probably means you need to get in better shape and see a doctor).
This is a silly little game following another bunch of silly bigger games while wasting some time trying to make some silly little (or big) money in the process. These aren’t the Paris peace talks, you are not part of the Manhattan project team. (Two WW2 references in one blog? BOOM) You are sitting at a computer click little men around into teams in order to crush your opponents team. Basically, you are playing online checkers….enjoy it!
We are all super lucky to even be in this position and not searching for water or killing alley cats for food/clothing. Enjoy the ride and remember there will always be tomorrow and the hope that Drew Brees won’t !@#$ up your lineup this time. (Damn you Drew Brees!!!)
And that is my closing thought for 2014….DAMN you Drew Brees.
These are my comments and ideas for 2014…..heading into the year that is 2015 I would like to hear yours.
(The above piece is strictly and opinion and written solely with the purpose to win best new humor newcomer of the month and the $12 prize that come with it. Please take any and all of my opinions with a grain of salt)
Happy !@#$ new year!
