CarlitosWay's Tiers to Remember - NBA picks 1/12
This series of blogs will highlight my top 3 picks in each positional category categorized through the following options: stud (>8K), mid-tier (5K-8K), sleeper (<5K). Finding spots where you can take advantage of (whether price, role, injury news, etc.) is key to your success.
January 12 Picks
Injury news on injury news. They are not necessarily injuries, but instead health protocols due to COVID. What a season this has been. You can’t make any strong assumptions early in the day until all the testing has been completed to determine who is in and who is out. As of this morning, this is my look going into tonight’s slate.
Durant becomes my top target of the night – no Irving and a price tag that should be higher easily allows me to guarantee him in most of my lines. Sabonis is my next man up. With the chance of Oladipo missing on top of this, Sabonis should be an even bigger force to contend with. Curry is ranked third for me as he should bounce back today. James and Harden are then only in play if one of their primary teammates misses out, otherwise it is kind of hard getting on their side.
Miami is super short-handed so as long as the game plays, we got some huge pieces that will be highly owned. Herro and Olynyk figure to be some of the most popular plays tonight across the board. Add in Achiuwa for bottom of the barrel value and you have the start of your cash line. Lonnie Walker is certainly a GPP play that I don’t tend to play, but with DeRozan and White out, we saw what Walker did in the last game. If his shot is falling, this is great value. I have listed Aldridge as well but that mid-range centre position is one where I will stay away from tonight. Regardless, Aldridge owns a bit more usage with DeRozan off the floor so the upside is there. Dotson makes the list only if Sexton and Garland continue to be out.
As for value, there is plenty. Look to the 76ers again in Mathias and company, or look to the Heat. Lyles, if he gets another start tonight, is another value play – terrible point per minute player but he played 35 minutes last game. At $3.3k, why not? *Ferrell again is another piece if the aforementioned Cavs players continue to sit out. KCP should be above $4k so until he is, I will keep trucking him in at a lower price tag.
