CarlitosWay's Tiers to Remember - NBA picks 1/13
This series of blogs will highlight my top 3 picks in each positional category categorized through the following options: stud (>8K), mid-tier (5K-8K), sleeper (<5K). Finding spots where you can take advantage of (whether price, role, injury news, etc.) is key to your success.
January 13 Picks
Though Porzingis is back tonight, that won’t take many people of Doncic who will be chalk this slate. He’s a great play, no doubt; but after reviewing the slate I may go elsewhere in terms of studs. The value though is there to load up on a stars and scrubs lineup. James and Durant grade out to be great plays tonight. For some reason the price on James declined from last night and although blowout risk is real, he has a good chance of meeting value there. If Davis is out, then yes load up on James. Durant is the next in line with Irving still absent – we saw what he did last night. Then we have stragglers like Towns, Randle and McCollum reserved for more GPP style contests.
In the mid-range, it seems to me the focus is on the upper scale. Fox to me is very underpriced in what should be a high scoring game. If he gets his average allotment of minutes, he should crush. Zion is another player where the price is low, and given that Ball is out, I can only assume that may help him increase his stat totals for the night. Grant is here because of his recent play and usage on Detroit – tough matchup but it seems nothing is stopping him right now. Also, in previous matches against the Bucks, he did dominate. Bledsoe is intriguing if ruled in with Lonzo’s absence and Barnes rounds up my list here given his strong GPP nature.
Once again for value, there will be tons to choose from. The one that pops up with Horford being out is Roby. As long as he gets the start, he should be chalk. Alexander-Walker is another piece that gets a huge boost if Bledsoe is out. Bruce Brown had a strong game last night so if he starts again he should be pretty safe, but do not expect the same performance. I am amazed at why the price on KCP keeps going down when he is a starter that plays mid 20 minutes for the Lakers – one of my favorite values of the night. And then we have James Johnson. With Kleber out, he should get run even with Porzingis back, on a limited basis.
