CarlitosWay's Tiers to Remember - NBA picks 1/8
This series of blogs will highlight my top 3 picks in each positional category categorized through the following options: stud (>8K), mid-tier (5K-8K), sleeper (<5K). Finding spots where you can take advantage of (whether price, role, injury news, etc.) is key to your success.
I don’t think I have experienced a slate like this where I probably edited my lines three to four times after lock. It was a rocky slate most definitely. Main line managed to double up in cash games while just squeaking in GPPs. Second line was just a few points out. The Irving news really threw a wrench to my initial build but just made LeVert even more of a no-brainer. To say I had Russell in both my lines is a true statement; to say I ended up with no Russell after lock is also a true statement. There were a lot of uncertainties early on especially when trying to decipher who on the Lakers would be available to play. I attempted to lock in a minimum only 3 spots in the early games and leave the rest remaining from the late games so I could do any adjustments based on last minute injury and starting lineup news. Once WCQ and Kleber were announced as starters, he allowed me to go all the way up to Doncic and James – I figured pairing them together would be the best option to help my line gain as much points even with a zero from Campazzo. Unfortunately, Brooks and Barton both downgraded my whole line and for that reason, I will never play them again this season. This was an unusual slate with a ton of tinkering, but it just goes to show that if you have time to stay updated after lock, you can make some helpful pivots.
As a result of all this, my chart pretty much went out the door as my picks were all chosen way before lock when injury news hadn’t hit. Keep yourself updated in order to succeed.

January 8 Picks
With a big slate like tonight, it is going to be a challenge especially with injury news being unavailable until closer to lock. Giannis and Westbrook round out to be the top studs today in my opinion, and I am for once leaning towards Giannis – I have yet to take him this year but I expect him to continue his finally dominating performances in what should be a high scoring game. Vucevic is the next in line for me especially with Gordon out – he should dominate the Rockets. VanVleet plays high minutes and has been outstanding lately – yes, last game he was limited by the Suns defense which is no joke this year. Ingram rounds out the pack and he looks to me like a lovely GPP play.
LeVert seems like a lock and load play once again tonight. Haliburton is heavily in play only if Fox misses out. Lonzo, Bazley, and Allen are plays which seem okay but not amazing and I will reserve them only for GPPs tonight. For value, I expect a lot more to pop up later this evening. For now, the only Nets value I can consider is TLC regardless of if he comes off the bench or not. Chiozza I have slight interest in as well but this one can be saved for a GPP shot. Melton is still priced down and has proven to be a high fantasy point per minute producer even in his limited minutes on the court. Theis seems like another lock and load play with the Celtics being banged up at that position today due to COVID. Cam Johnson and Caruso round it out, not as exciting plays but as plays that can at minimum get what you need.
