Contrarian Corner August 20th
Welcome to the Contrarian Corner. This blog will be about doing things a little differently than what most of the Rotogrinders team recommends. Anyone can look at team totals and decide to stack the team with the highest total. What I attempt to do is stack teams that will be low owned and are in great spots, despite what the Vegas team total might be. This strategy has a high level of variance. I am not aiming to cash for the minimum, I am trying to win GPP’s.
The wedding weekend is over and it’s time to get right back at it here on the contrarian corner. It is hard at times to take a few days off and try to follow the news. It talks time to look back and see what you missed. It is almost like falling out of the flow and needing to reacquaint yourself with how things are going. I find this much more difficult in the NBA if I take a weekend off. The NBA is much more difficult in this regard due to minutes and rotations, but we can talk about that in a few months.
We have a large full slate tonight and several teams with massive totals. I am going to eliminate every team with a team total at or above six runs, as they will be chalky. That means that Atlanta, the Angels, and Cubs are not in consideration. Once you take those teams out, there are several contrarian options in play.
I think the Astros will be the most popular of the non-chalk options. Anytime the Astros are not chalky, I want action. Their offense has been on fire and their bullpen has been awful. The Astros know they have to score a bunch and keep scoring no matter the lead. I stacked the Astros last night and was just able to cash in GPP’s.
This is my favorite contrarian stack of the night. Cal Quantrill has been inconsistent, but been pretty tough on righties. This is a fantastic low-owned spot to stack up the Reds. If you look at the Reds offense the last two weeks, they are all over the map. They are a perfect GPP play. The Reds could go out and drop double-digits, or they could score two runs tonight. If you want to pay up for one or two pitching spots, this is the perfect stack. I will be playing a Clayton Kershaw lineup with the Reds. I am going to call a big night from Tucker Barnhart.
This is my plan as this morning. I’m Milo741 on all the DFS sites. Follow along on twitter @wintheweekend, as I will post my bets as well. Good luck everyone!
