Contrarian Corner July 18th
Welcome to the Contrarian Corner. This blog will be about doing things a little differently than what most of the Rotogrinders team recommends. Anyone can look at team totals and decide to stack the team with the highest total. What I attempt to do is stack teams that will be low owned and are in great spots, despite what the Vegas team total might be. This strategy has a high level of variance. I am not aiming to cash for the minimum, I am trying to win GPP’s.
Yesterday, I gave out the Twins and Athletics in the early slate. If you had the right combo, you should have done well. I did not as I chose to avoid Mark Canha and his massive day.
The two teams I mentioned in the late slate were Arizona and Kansas City. To say they exceeded expectations would be an under statement! I screwed up pitching so badly that I could not really make anything worthwhile out of those two teams if you can believe that.
Today’s slate features an early slate of four games and then a late slate of eight games.
Boston is going to be the chalk in the early slate. There is currently no line or total on the game, but Toronto is scheduled to start Thomas Pannone. Pannone gave up four earned in four innings in his last outing. Despite it being chalky, I will have a Boston stack.
There is only one contrarian stack I am really interested in the early slate. I played them last night and will be playing them again.
Kansas City Royals – Ross Detwiler is starting for Chicago and he scored negative Draft Kings points his last outing. The Royals keep scoring when they face weaker pitching. They steal bases and are very aggressive on the base paths. The last time Kansas City did not score four or more runs was against the Nationals in back-to-back games. The pitchers in those games, Max Scherzer and Patrick Corbin. Give me the lower-owned Royals stack.
The Houston Astros will be the mega chalk after blowing up last night and a date with Matt Harvey today. I want to stack the Astros too. I will in one lineup, but finding a contrarian lineup may be a little more difficult this evening with some lower totals across the board.
Arizona Diamondbacks – A date with Zach Davies awaits Arizona after exploding in Texas last night. Arizona is expensive to stack and that will allow them to be even lower owned.
Tampa Bay Rays – This is the ultimate contrarian stack. This will be a bullpen game for the Yankees and we should know who their first two pitchers are. Tampa has been capable of putting up massive numbers and in this spot they will be completely overlooked. I will make a Rays stack for sure on this slate. The Rays are also all cheap compared to Arizona or Houston. You can pay up for pitching and easily stack the Rays.
This is my plan as of this morning. I am headed back to watch more of The Open Championship. I’m Milo741 on all the DFS sites. Follow along on twitter @wintheweekend, as I will post my bets as well. Good luck everyone!
