Contrarian GPP Plays

I will take a look at who I think will be the popular plays for each position and offer some alternatives around the same price point. We all know if you want to take down a GPP you need to fade some of the chalk plays. At the bottom, you will seem some of my value plays that are not mentioned earlier in the article.

Russell Westbrook and John Wall should be 2 of the more popular plays on the slate. I do not see why I would fade Westbrook tonight but if you want to pivot off of him than Wall is a fine alternative. The Lakers like to score and play no defense which should allow Westbrook to hit 60+ fantasy points. The probable return of Enes Kanter should help Westbrook as well. I like Wall for around 50 fantasy points but just worry about a potential blowout here. It is hard to predict blowouts but that could be the difference if you place high in a GPP or not. Some mid priced plays I like for the slate include: Yogi Ferrell, Jameer Nelson, and George Hill. With no Deron Williams, I read that it is Yogi’s turn at PG. Nelson continues to produce at a high level and with no Mudiay he is seeing 30+ minutes per game.

Demar Derozan and Dwyane Wade will be highly owned plays. People seem to love Brad Beal as well but not myself. All this guy seems to do is score and nothing else. I like Wade tonight against a no defense PHX team. They just traded their best wing defender in PJ Tucker so that should mean a field day for both Butler and Wade.I have been riding Tim Hardaway for the last month and facing off vs Waiters does not scare me. I like Tim for 30 points for the night. Look at some 76ers tonight too as they traded away both Ilyasova and Noel. While Noel is not a big scorer, Ilyasova was putting up 10+ shots per game. Guys like Stauskas and Saric should be on your radar.

I see nothing at SF that looks like a must play. I will run several SF options between Butler, Warren, Hollis-Jefferson, and Hayward. Warren should see more playing time with Tucker gone and PHX looking towards the future. Hollis-Jefferson at below 5k is a nice punt play against DEN which should have plenty of points scored. I think Giannis may cover Hayward and his length should bother him but Hayward has been on a roll putting up 39+ fantasy points in 6 of his last 8 games. Do not forget to scroll down to find Brandon Ingram. He has had some shooting woes of late but even if this LAL/OKC game gets out of hand he should still see playing time in the 4th quarter.

I am all aboard the Bobby Portis train. Hoiberg has been jerking him around the last 2 years. He has a decent 3 point shot on a team that lacks perimeter scoring. A nice match up vs PHX but I am not sure if he is starting or not. I would assume he is starting over Mirotic tonight. Pay attention to the news before lock. Both Jokic and Saric will be highly owned. Jokic should bounce back against a putrid BKN game. Although I am not crazy about Jokic’s high priced tag you should get 50 fantasy points. Saric will be let loose for PHI and I like his all around game as he gets rebounds and assists. Markieff and James Johnson are fine alternative options. Markieff has put up 30+ fantasy points in his last 3 games and PHI does not scare anyone on defense. Johnson has been a bit all over the place of late but you want around 30 fantasy points at that price.

Brook Lopez and Rudy Gobert should highlight the high owned plays. The BKN/DEN game has a total point total of 231 which obviously makes it the highest projected scoring game of the slate. You want several guys in this game in your lineups. The nice thing is BKN has several affordable punt plays to insert into your lineups. Rudy is a consistent play and probably better off in your cash lineups. He has hit 30+ fantasy points in all of his last 10 games. I do not see any contrarian plays in their price range instead I will probably punt Center as both Okafor and Olynyk are good options. I mentioned Philly traded Ilyasova which means more shots for Okafor. Noel leaving means Holmes will pick up back up minutes. I do not see why Okafor does not get at least 30 minutes in this game. I would ride both Okafor and Saric until Embiid returns. I do not how many people have noticed but Kelly Olynyk has been good for around 25-30 fantasy points in his last 4 games.

Value Plays: Sean Kilpatrick, Rajon Rondo, Seth Curry, Caris Levert, Jordan Clarkson, and Julius Randle.

Some of these BKN playes will have good games but I am not sure who they will be. I would run a combination of guys between Kilpatrick, Levert and Hollis-Jefferson. Hollis-Jefferson should be the safest play of these 3. As mentioned above, D-Will is gone so it is time for DAL to let loose guys like Seth Curry and Yogi. I like Randle’s all around game as he is good for 15 points 7 rebounds and 4 assists tonight. The only thing that worries me is OKC runs these guys out of the gym tonight. Do not ignore the fact that Lou Williams was traded. This means Clarkson will get the bulk of the shots with the 2nd unit. Below 4.5k he makes for an easy play for me.
