Creating Lineups on excel

I have seen several people who have tried to do LU generation without using a tool like LU builder.
They have stated it was time consuming and difficult. I cannot disagree more. I think the tools DK offers is sufficient to accomplish the task of building and editing LU’s via cvs downloads.

I generate an excel file every event. 2 reasons, 1) I hate not making any decision myself and 2) I love the history I save for next year and beyond.

I start with a template excel file.
2) I download the cvs salaries file. I copy it and paste the info (without instructions on the top lines) and paste it in my template file.
A) in DK main lobby at the top click on lineups
B) click on upload lineups
C) pick the sport>>pick the style>>pick the start time. once you have the contest you want. click download.
DK system retrieves the info you want and places it in a cvs file. It is a file to be opened at the bottom of the window.
named DKsalaries(xx). click to open. you get a file with these headings.

GGGGGG Position Name + IDNameID Roster Position Salary Game Info TeamAbbrev AvgPointsPerGame.

D) I make formating changes here to utilize my LU building.
copy salary column and paste it after name+ ID. You need name, ID#, and salary. Name is for you, ID# is for DK, and salary is for spreadsheet building. Once you have name ID # and salary next to each other, when copying a player to add. Copy the 2 cells and paste them in a LU spot on the template. ie these 2 cells [Hao-Tong Li (10588583)] [11300]. a formula is after the 6 golfers to see what salary was used and how much remains.

In my process I evaluate the golfers, select my player pool by virtue of colorcoding, sort the players I like to the top of the list and then play with salaries to see whats possible. Here is where cores are tried and made. I have no fixed number of LU’s and try to make as many as possible. If time is crunched, easy to stop making LU’s and concentrate on my player pool.

I generally delete until I have 20 LU’s (almost always entered in quarter max). I then evaluate the teams, determine an entries strategy and decide how many of the LU’s I think should be played in higher GPP’s. I then rate the LU by what to use. I do it by spreading my low owned scrub/maybe stars across the selected group.

Then I enter contests with a dummy LU. (for me its always the bottom 6 on the salary chart). This holds the contests for me and makes entering and editing LU’s 1 click away instead of long minutes and hours doing it in DK 1 by 1.

3) I download my entries into a cvs file
A) start in DK main lobby, at the top click Lineups
B) click on edit entries.
C) pick the sport>>pick the style>>pick the start time. once you have the contest you want. click download.
Here you need a little care(perhaps a sort by contest entry fee and then by contest ID number). I have certain LU’s among 20 that I want in certain contests (Gpp or cash game or league).
If you have a rhyme and reason to your LU’s my simple number/color code system makes it simple.

4) I edit my salary structure LU’s by copying all the columns it has and inserting those columns. making it look duplicate next to each other. I then delete all the salaries from 1 set. copy the 6 golfers from my master and paste in appropriate spots in my entries cvs. save the entries cvs, while still in DK page for upload download entries, I click Upload. DK ask’s which file and the top of the list is the last file done which you edited and saved. 99% of the time, I have the success message on x amount of LU’s of total amount were successful. If you have a problem, It tells you the line number of the uploaded file where the problem is.

5) you cannot avoid tinkering or last minute WD’s. I look at my sheet, I know almost instantly where the player and LU is. No searching your LU’s in DK for someone. No confusing LU changes, no mass edit in DK system with using 1 player at a lower salary. All uncertainty eliminated (except what golfer to use).

Good stuff. Say you want to do 150 lineups. Is there a way of double checking if you have accidentally entered duplicate lineups? Thanks for the informative write up.

I dont know how but using excel you can do it. I answered your PM with how I check my LU’s (making Do with computer software is my name and my regret.)
