December 15th NHL Write Up

Tonight we get an 8-game slate with a bunch of great options so let’s get right to it. I’ll start with some stacks I think will be the chalk, some low-owned stacks to consider, a few defensemen in nice spots, and couple GPP goalies. All of the lines I will reference are based on Daily Faceoff.

Chalk Stacks
CHI2—This is about as good of a matchup. Even if they get matched up with Tavares’ line (68.05% CA60), they should be able to do some serious damage. In the Hawks last game, Artemi Panarin and Artem Anisimov both had multi-point outings while Kane was left off the score sheet. That should change tonight as the Islanders give up the second most scoring chances per 60 minutes.

TOR2 and TOR3—Everyone is going to be on “(player-popup)Auston Matthews”:/players/auston-matthews-35785’ and “(player-popup)Tyler Bozak”:/players/tyler-bozak-14123’s respective lines and the reasons are as follows: These lines own 71 and 64 CF60s. Both are averaging over 14 scoring chances per 60 minutes played. Arizona is the worst possession team in the league with a 65CA60. Not to mention Vegas has Leafs as a -245 favorite.

STL2—Another huge favorite (-200) and Tarasenko is on fire averaging 4 SOG/game and 7 points in his last four games. This devils defense is poor, but I usually don’t like to pick on Cory Schneider and his 84%HDSv. I’ll be underweight on ownership.

WPG1—Tough to fade a line as talented as this one, especially against a squad that just got dominated by the Wild two nights ago. They have a 60CF60 which is very solid and Luongo is struggling mightily (77%HDSv). This should be a high scoring game.

Under-The-Radar Stacks

TOR1—”(player-popup)Nazem Kadri”:/players/nazem-kadri-14120’s line has been almost as good as the other lines mentioned above. They are getting upwards of 10 SCF60. Suprisingly, Kadri has the best iCF60 on his team. He gets to play on the first power play unit with his even strength line mate Leo Komarov as well as Auston Matthews.

MIN1—If you watched them against Florida on Tuesday, it was clear who was the better team was. They didn’t put a ton of shots on goal, but almost all their shots were quality ones. The addition of Jason Pominville to the first line has been huge for Zach Parise and Eric Staal. All will play on PP1 and Nashville has been nothing special on the kill posting a so-so 80.7% kill.

NYR—”(player-popup)Rick Nash”:/players/rick-nash-17162 is back and that means we get a Hayes-Nash-Grabner combo. This line has done some damage. While most will gravitate towards the other side of this game, this is a line that features two players over 15iCF60 that has multi-goal upside.

Defensemen

“(player-popup)Nick Leddy”:/players/nick-leddy-14352—He doesn’t shoot the puck a ton, but plays on the first power play with Tavares and co. Chicago is brutal on the penalty kill and the Islanders will need odd man opportunities to score.

“(player-popup)Matt Dumba”:/players/mathew-dumba-16740—Now playing on the top power play for Minnesota, Dumba will go overlooked. He’s got the highest iCF60 of all defensemen on the Wild and will be firing away any chance he gets on the power play.

“(player-popup)Jason Demers”:/players/jason-demers-14484—I like FLA2 a fair amount, and any defenseman against Winnipeg that gets PP time is worth looking into. Demers will quarterback the second unit and this is a great spot for Florida to get their last-ranked PP into form.

Goalies

“(player-popup)Scott Darling”:/players/scott-darling-18543—In 13 games, Darling has a 88HDSv% which is right behind Carey Price for a frame of reference. He’s been great since Corey Crawford went down and that should continue tonight against a poor Islanders team. You’ll get him low-owned because he’s on the road and only a slight favorite.

“(player-popup)Henrik Lundqvist”:/players/henrik-lundqvist-14341—He has had nine days off and is finally getting called on to start tonight in a tough road matchup against Dallas. He should be fresh and ready to prove himself against a top-heavy Dallas team. Lundqvist should give up a goal or two here, but the Rangers should get the win against Antti Niemi.

Good luck to all tonight!
