DK CBB 1/24: The Rotnei Clarke Pick and Pop

I am going to try and write up my thought process for CBB as much as I can but having a 55 hr+ job makes it difficult, though having the biggest slate so far on DK, I’ll try this out and see what sticks and if it helps anyone out. If all goes well I will try and write at least 1-2 times a week. I would love to give back to the CBB community as CBB>NBA in every imaginable aspect and would love to grow the sport on all the sites.

For background, this is my first year in CBB, but I feel I have hit the streets running and still have an infinite amount to learn, but feel this is very beatable if you avoid certain pros.. specifically my nemesis Sox22. (but we will get to him later) For those that don’t know my DFS name, it is GordonHayward20 and if you follow me on twitter you know I tilt pretty easily for no apparent reason.

These plays are all GPP plays for tomorrow’s January Jam Storm the Court. Some are definitely cash safe, but focusing on this tournament. Couple things of note. Today’s games are all about P.A.C.E, I am fading all the slow games (UK/USC..TCU/WV..GU/MARQ.. MIA/Cuse..Neb/.MSU)

STUDS: These guys are a must if you want to cash and potentially win the Jam tomorrow.

1. Bryce Desean-Jones: 6100 DK The name of the game today is pace. I am avoiding probably half the slate because of it. Will some guys in the slow games like UK-SC go off? Possibly. But I want guys that play fast and do a bit of everything. Jones is this guy. His PT has dropped slightly, but he is the gym rat that is in my opinion, the glue of this Iowa St team. They are catching a Tech team on the road and still a 9 pt favorite. Tech is just awful .They started 5 freshman last year and its as if Tubby has thrown in the towel for the year. I expect a 10/5/5 game at least out of Jones which gets him to his 4x value.

2. Michael Qualls: 7400 DK
Again, since lineups came out a day early, this is kind of a gift. Arkansas/Mizzou should be a high tempo game. Mizzou has a chance to steal one at home here and catch Arkansas off their OT win. I am fading Portis mainly due to his price. Reaching 4x is about 36.4 which I am slowly learning, you have to search for 4x value. I just don’t think he gets it done. However, Qualls should be player of the week/month in the SEC. He is stepping into his role nicely and has done fantastic in conference play.

3. Jonathan Williams III: 6600 DK
Again, this is a game where I think Mizzou has a chance to knock of Arkansas and Williams could be one of those sneaky plays that can go off. His price tag may seem high, but realize it’s come down from over 8k. He will get his shots, he rebounds well and will see 30+ minutes. If he can stay out of foul trouble, if Mizzou is to win, he will be a key reason why.

4. Justin Jackson: 5100 DK
This to me could be the steal of the day. UNC/FSU is going to be very fast paced. UNC I believe is an 18 pt fav which screams blowout and garbage time. That is just up Jackson’s alley. He’ been turning up his play as of recently and at this price point where the team total is quite high, you have to go with Vegas and assume he can get a 10/3/4 to get 4x. The only worry about UNC is they spread the wealth and Roy’s rotations are somewhat odd, however with Pinson out, that will free up a little bit more minutes for Jackson hopefully.

5. Bryce Alford, Joseph Young, Norman Powell:
Like Varn said on his podcast today, if you are leading going into 4pm and aren’t up by 40-60, good luck. This Oregon/UCLA game could be in the 90s. Neither team plays team. Each team loves to just dribble down and chuck it up. What better options to take the 3 highest % of shooters. I think Welsh also could be a play only if Parker can’t go as he’s a GTD so something to monitor. I always want a minimum of 2 guys in a GPP to be in the late games (I know it’s stupid but its something I must have) to either keep my lead or chase down the leaders. No better game at 4pm than this one. I will have the most exposure to it as there are many ways you can get 2-3 of these guys on your roster pretty easily.

Guys I like to hit 3x at least and will have exposure to: Hammons (He loves to play at home, Stephens is out and he should destroy Olesani and Woodbury), Danuel House, Leron Black (Ill in a high tempo game and numerous injuries), Carlos Morris

I personally see very little boom plays under 3900. Maybe because its a 15 game slate and I don’t have to go that low or I’m missing something. But rest assured. Sox22 will have at least 2 that will reach 6x

These guys I will be staying away from for a couple reasons, mainly due to pricing and matchups

Christmas- Price has got too high and on a 15 game slate, there’s way better options

Trice/Dawson/Valentine- This was tough for me. I feel this game could be 40-38. Nebraska just plays so slow and as much as I love the MSU trio, I just couldn’t fit them in with a team I liked around them. This coming from the guy that has rostered a minimum of 2 of them every slate they’ve been on.

Kansas/UT game- Again, people like Oubre and Cliff have been monsters, however their price has caught up with them finally and this game with be a grind it out ole fashioned slug fest. Not DFS friendly imo.

Guys I wanted to roster, know will probably go off and haunt me for not taking them, but just couldn’t pull the trigger

- Lebryan Nash. The guy is just nasty in conference. Again, the pace of that game worries me

- Michael Gbinijie- Getting tons of mins, playing extremely well, Cuse has 0 subs… more and more I think about it I have to fit him in but just can’t find the spot

- Blossomgame- Everyone will see his dud and be off him. He gets an awful wake forest at home where he prolly goes for 20/12

Cody Miller I love this kid. Love him. He does everything for Wake and a DFS stud. He def will be LOW owned and could set you apart.

- Smith Rivera- Another do everything guard. Faces a Marquette team on the road that plays slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Georgetown just spreads the wealth a little too much for my liking on a 15 game slate

AND FINALLY. The “If You Play Him, You Have Zero Room To Bitch On Twitter”
Zach. Smith. He probably will garbage time reach you value, but man the guy just flat. out. sucks. I learned my lesson on him one too many times.

I know this isn’t stat filled and mostly filler, but it was written on the fly and a first trial run so please be kind with remarks and may the odds be ever in your favor tomorrow.

PS- Sox22 is the best right now in CBB. I just love razing the unknown genius.

Still laughing at the “if you follow me on twitter you know I tilt pretty easily for no apparent reason.”

Very solid write-up though. Should be a fun tourney today.

Good stuff. I haven’t played CBB, but will today. Best of luck and keep writing!

Man, wish I’d read this pre-slate! At the last second, I joined a 5-man that included your nemesis. Doh! Now I know, only my 3rd time playing CBB, I’ll avoid Sox22 moving forward.

On Fanduel, Sox22 is almost impossible to avoid. May I suggest setting up games with either win limits or a No Sox22 tag!!

    Please, I “destroyed” Sox22!
It was 220 to 180 or so; he didn’t place in that 5-man, and I won it. If you’re gonna “beginner’s luck it,” at least use your fellow Grinders! I literally read Scott’s blog picks here on RG, realized I had 5 minutes until lock, and went with a full LU of his picks. Money! Hope you dominated the arch nemesis today too, TBY20, and won some cash. Cheers, thanks for the 411; I’ll definitely avoid him in the future, to be safe.
