EPL Saturday February 1st - Hot Minute Thoughts

Saturday slate

Salah is evidently one of the top options on the slate as he leads the pack as most likeliest to score on Saturday. You are playing him for his goals as his floor cannot cover his price tag. That is the risk you must be willing to take. Firmino is now overpriced so I don’t see many going there. Deulofeu seems always to be priced right as his floor can cover his price tag but his ceiling is rare. Seeing how Everton is a bit more defensively sound, I don’t see myself going here. Instead, if Sigurdsson plays, he is back in the cash consideration pool.

Here I will list GPP plays for the sole reason of having a bucket of players who may score a goal on Saturday: Maupay, Lewin, Pukki, Wilson. They all have similar match-ups and pretty much all of them have a small floor. Hit the goal scorer and you are in prime position to succeed as there is no standard secondary play at the forward spot.

The most interesting to me might be Ghazi if he starts once again. He actually has been in the lead for taking corners, albeit while splitting with two to three others.
The Bournemouth match should be filled with goals but I swear I said that in the reverse fixture and fireworks never occurred. Similar plays to this guy would involve Zaha and Antonio. Again, nothing too exciting.

Does any one go for Ings as his price was greatly reduced against his former club? Only if you like story lines.

Grealish seems like the top play in the midfield by far. He might be even the best cash play considering his immense floor. The match-up is also positive for him. He probably will be over 60% owned after looking once again at who is on this slate. If Buendia has recovered from his injury, he is also another intriguing play as he should be back on sets against a team who surrenders a lot of sets and crosses per game.

Fraser is another player that pops up if you want to save some money from Buendia. He is not as sure as he has been in the past but he is facing an Aston Villa team which surrenders a lot of fantasy points to attackers. If you need the savings, I can see people going with a Grealish/Fraser stack to start their cash lineup off with.

Then we reach Mooy and Snodgrass. None of them impress me this week although they are priced even lower than the aforementioned players. They should have the majority of set pieces on their team, but the match-up isn’t the greatest for both sides. You can also throw Fleck into this category. Milivojevic looks to be returning from injury so he should once again have a monopoly over sets – problem is, they face a solid Sheffield United team who are favorites to win.

If you want to differentiate yourself, I would look at Trezeguet, Duda, or maybe even new Newcastle signing, Lazaro. Other than that there appears to be little value unless you want to go back to Chalobah who may continue on sets, albeit how insignificant they may be.

We have some major things to think about in this area for once. This is probably the most difficult place to decide what you are going to do. Arnold is priced up to $8K! This is probably a record for a defender. Yes, we know his floor is high due to his role on set-pieces but wow, can you even afford him? You might just have to. I’d rather play Arnold over Digne. Digne is still a hit but more so when Sigurdsson doesn’t play. I would only consider Digne in that situation. But I also may just want to find an extra $1K for Arnold in all honesty.

The interesting piece here is Ritchie. DraftKings did a great job in pricing him up and listing him as a defender. If he was listed as a midfielder, I’d lock him in right away. Putting him as a defender only though makes it tougher to squeeze him in. He is the lead set taker on this team after returning from his injury. Newcastle has a lovely match-up and are actually favored for once. Perhaps it will be ideal to pay down at forward to make these floor plays all fit.

Aside from that, you know how I describe the rest of the pack – very similar, you just got to hit on the one who provides that key assist.

Allison is clearly the top dog of the slate. Liverpool has the best defense in the league, they will undoubtedly win, clean sheet is there for the taking too. Problem is you may not be able to afford this high priced keeper so let’s see what else we can do.

I don’t mind Dubravka for the win and a couple of saves. I wish his price was in the $4K range though. Henderson looks intriguing as Palace struggles to score. Apart from those guys, it’s hard to pay down at this position. We are going to be strapped for salary this Saturday. Best of luck!

So I mention 29 out of 132 possible starting players while you need 8 players to make up a lineup. If you just do straight line math, it’s pretty much 3-4 player options per position.

Did you want me to just give you a lineup to use? Ridiculous. Make your own conclusions.
