Finding the Balance: Week 17

Wondering why this year’s challenge looks so different from the past? Read here for the full explanation!

Well, after that snooze of a Super Bowl, it’s time to get the juices flowing with some NBA! Unfortunately, my youngest came home sick from daycare today (I mean, we had about two weeks of everyone being healthy, so we were due), but I was still able to get about a half an hour to prepare for the late slate. With the full-Harden fade once again, I actually felt pretty good about lineups that centered around CP3, Fox, Faried and WCS, and figured guys like Bridges and Mills could provide some salary relief. Then, it was deciding who to spend up on, which meant LA on DK and Booker on Yahoo due to the pricing discrepancies. Unfortunately, I probably would have slid in Bertans instead of Mikal on DK had I seen the news earlier, but I was able to sneak him in on FD at the absolute last minute, so Mikal being absolutely atrocious in the first half wasn’t a great feeling and ultimately the Harden fade knocked me out on DK and Yahoo (despite putting up 270+ on each), but, on FD, I had a decent night so the night wasn’t a total loss:

Another day of my kid leaving daycare early “sick” (debatable…) coupled with me not having any time to really figure out what I wanted to do with my lineup before leaving for old man league bball made this one a bit tricky, but I decided I’d focus on Grizzlies value, along with Muscala on DK, and just fill around it and see what happened. On Yahoo, as usual, the slate was a little bit different and also had the late game, so I just ended up going with Lillard, who has really been my Yahoo MVP the last few weeks. Well, sadly, he was actually my LVP on Yahoo in what was an otherwise strong lineup:

…but my DKlineup, despite a few clunkers, was solid:

Tomorrow, I’m going to accomplish something I haven’t done in quite some time: A 3-site sweep! Let’s do it!

With parent teacher conferences over and my voice nearly gone, I was able to get home, eat a late dinner, put my youngest (hopefully not sick anymore) son to bed, and put together some lineups. The trick, of course, is trying to figure out which Spurs are worth their weight, so I ultimately ended up with Forbes and Poetl on DK and Forbes and Gay on DK. On Yahoo, Bertrans made it in there. Then, one minute after lock, I was able to swap Forbes to Mills on DK and Yahoo but not on FD (obviously). Then, I had CP3, Faried, Bogdonovic and Bagley everywhere, but couldn’t fit in Harden on Yahoo, where I felt like I pretty much had to pay up for Durant, which actually was a pretty good move that paid nice dividends. Ultimately, I didn’t make much happen on FD, killing my two game sweep, but buth DK and Yahoo were solid, leading to a pretty big night:

Well, as the day went on, my voice went from nearly gone to killing me, and, like any stupid male, I went ahead and (poorly) played in the city rec semis today, somewhat helping my team move on to the ‘ship next Thursday. However, that’s where the good news ends as, DFS wise, I made the cardinal sin DFS move of not playing a motivated Rondo and, despite having decent lineups overall, fell well short of any cash lines. Oh yeah, and I also have a temp of 102.3, so I’m actually taking the day off from school tomorrow to hopefully rest and kick whatever this crap is!

Friday, February 8th, 2019

Well, after about 20 hours of sleep, I’m feeling back up to about 50%, so hopefully that will enough to not embarrass myself tonight! I felt like Yahoo’s pricing allows for a lot of studs, and, once Love was deemed starting, he was a no-brainer at minimum salary, as I figure he’ll be chucking a plenty and, even if he plays 20 minutes, he should be able to clear 20 fantasy points, easily.

Or…. he’ll play six minutes, putting a damper on an otherwise stellar lineup (minus Tyler Johnson, who went from starting to not starting):

Still, that was nice, and I ended up with another solid lineup on Yahoo late, as well as on DK

Weird thing is, though, that DK lineup somehow lost six points due to stat adjustments, which was a pretty massive swing. Usually it’s a rebound or an assist adjustment, but six points? Come on, man…!

With my wife graciously letting me rest up for most of the day, I was feeling quite a bit more like myself, and was able to approach the slate with a clear head. Unfortunately, this slate consisted of pretty much any high priced guy you can think of, but, once Alphabet was ruled out, that meant Ersan would presumably start and his value would allow the lineup construction to be a bit better. Yahoo’s earlier tipoff made it a bit trickier, but, with Valanciunas also being out, I just went in with the Grizzlies value I’ve been maximizing since Gasol had been hurt and hoped for the best. Well, “the best” wasn’t very good on Yahoo and, despite Ersan not starting and a ridiculous 17 points with nothing else game from Schroder on DK, I still managed to have a great night on there thanks to PG13 (without any late stat adjustments costing me cash):

Finding the Balance

This was a long week. With my wife starting her new job last Wednesday, it’s required a schedule change for all of us, effectively starting all of our days an hour earlier. It’s not terrible for us as adults, but for the kids? It’s been rough. Couple that with me having five bball games in a week, as well as Parent Teacher Conferences, and it’s just been a lot for all of us, and now, hopefully, everybody can start mending up and we can all get well. But… as I was just writing this, I had to stop because my oldest son has a random nosebleed, so who knows how that’s going to go. But at least the DFS has picked up a bit, right? Anyway, we’ve only got a few days left before the All-Star Break hits and, like most of the players in the NBA, I think we’re all ready for a little break. But let’s all make sure we finish strong, and do our best to find the balance between our lives and DFS for just a few more days so we can build up some goodwill with our friends and families during the break, hopefully enough to last us the rest of the season…!

See you next week!

The smart money was to avoid the atlanta chalky game in retrospect.

Richardson Winslow I missed, got Issac but missed on Augustine and Draymond and that Miami coach needs to be fired when he has no rebounder in the game
