Guaransheed Fridays: The NBA is Back!
If you have never read the Guaransheed Friday’s column, it is a weekly blog that will feature my favorite picks for Friday’s NBA games. But these aren’t just any regular picks, these picks are Guaransheed which means that the picks are not only guaranteed to perform well, but that the guarantee is stamped with a Sheed of approval. This obviously makes the picks ten times better because they are Guaransheed and a Sheed never lies! The picks went really well last year and as long as you Grinders are still willing to read them, I am willing to give them out.
This year will be a bit different though as Rasheed Wallace has come out of retirement and is back in the league playing for the New York Knicks. While I would love to put Rasheed Wallace as my number one pick each night, that would be a bit biased and he is such an obvious pick anyway, that I think it goes without saying. Here are some great options for tonight’s games besides Rasheed:
Glen Davis – F – Have you seen the Magic’s roster? Cam I know you love the Magic, but I’m sorry to tell you that they are in for a terrible season. The good news however, is that Big Baby is likely going to be their go to guy which sounds crazy but it’s true. Last season after Dwight went out with his back injury, Big Baby was huge for the Magic and was really putting up some big games. I don’t think too many people will pick Davis for the first few games and I think this is a great opportunity to get him at a discounted price. Don’t be surprised to see him put up 18 points and 12 boards tonight. Just trust me on this one.
Carmelo Anthony – F – Melo and Amare just can’t seem to play well together but when either of them is out with an injury, the other one seems to step up his game. The Knicks will be without Amare for the first 6-8 weeks of the season and I fully expect Melo to take over this team (With the permission of Rasheed of course). Melo always loves playing in big games and what game is bigger than opening night in the Garden against the hated Heat? Melo is going to come out firing and should easily top the 30 point mark. As long as he is active on the boards, he will make a great play.
James Harden – G – Wow what a first game from Harden. Regardless of who the opponent was, when a player other than LBJ puts up 37 points, 12 assists, and 6 rebounds, you have to be impressed. The Rockets are now Harden’s team and until his salary rises up to where it should be, he should be on your radar every night. The Rockets take on the Hawks tonight who are likely to be starting Devin Harris opposite of Harden. I will take that matchup all day every day.
Paul George – G – I mentioned in my daily picks the other day that George is going to really put up some impressive numbers while Granger is out. He did just that in his first game by putting up 14 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists. I expect his rebounding to drop down a bit, but I think he can put up a similar performance tonight against the Bobcats. The best part about George is that he does everything including getting blocks and steals. He is definitely under priced right now.
Nikola Pekovic – C – Do you remember the run that Pek went on last season when Love wasn’t in the lineup? He was good for 20 and 10 almost every night. Well Love is once again out of the lineup and the Wolves are really short handed when it comes to big men. Pek should play a ton of minutes tonight and should be able to get DeMarcus Cousins into foul trouble. I like Pek for 20 and 12 tonight.
Sheed’s Grey Spot Picks of The Day:
Dante Cunningham – F – With Love out, the Wolves are either going to start Cunningham or Derrick Williams. While Williams is a much more polished scorer, Cunningham is a much better rebounder and defender. I like Cunningham tonight regardless of if he is starting or not because his price is less than 4 grand on DS.
Marcus Morris – If Patterson is out again tonight, Morris becomes a must play at his price of only $1,600 on DS. I don’t really have to say much else other than he is $1,600.
As always, enjoy the picks, use them to your advantage, and have a good weekend!
