NBA Preseason GamePlan 10/22/15
Preseason is a pain in the butt. It’s a small sample size of stats and you have no idea what type of minutes the players are going to play. Well, I’m here to hopefully make choosing your team a little easier. I looked at the preseason stats of all the players on tonight’s slate and wrote out, by team, a few of their averages so you can see if they are a good value. I targeted the players with the most MPG so far in the preseason. I hope it helps you.
These are the players’ preseason’s stats.
I really like Jeremy Lin, like last night, with his low value. He is on a b2b so that might be something to consider. There are quite a few other guys who are getting 20 plus mins on this roster, but I don’t know if it is worthwhile to roster them. I’d avoid Jefferson too, as you can find much better value at C for that price (DeAndre ) or less.
I think Paul George, if he gets the minutes, will go off again tonight like he did last game, hitting at least 5x value. He is rounding into form and is the carrier of this offense.
I wouldn’t play George Hill, as I think you can get better value at a lower price tag than him, such as Jeremy Lin. Ian Mahinimi is a cheap center play that should hit at least 4x value and has the potential for more depending on how many blocks he gets.
George Robinson and Monta Ellis are both averaging over 22 minutes on this team.
New York Knicks
|Kyle O ‘ Quinn||20.5||0.2||7.8||1.8||0.5||1.0||11.5||$4500|
I really like Galloway, as long as his minutes don’t fall beneath 25, and I’ll probably be rolling out Williams if he is playing tonight, but he is questionable still.
Carmelo can go off on any night, but he is mainly a scorer, and I think Paul George is a better play at $100 less.
Note: The Knicks plan to play their regular starting five extended minutes tonight. That will reduce the minutes of some of the role players mentioned above.
Isaiah Thomas is questionable for tonight’s game with Tendinitis. If he doesn’t play, then I really like Evan Turner as I think he will score more than usual while also contributing points in multiple ways.
There are quite a few other players on this team averaging 20 minutes. I think the most interesting of those players are Amir Johnson and Terry Rozier, as they both are averaging above 11 PPG with some contributions in rebounding and assisting.
This Nuggets team worries me because I don’t like their stats per game as much if they drop down to 20 MPG. I’d rather pay up $400 for Mahinimi than play Lauvergne because I believe he has a higher ceiling since he gets blocks.
Faried and Gallinari are both averaging above 20 MPG with Gallinari at 24.8 MPG, and putting up okay numbers, but they aren’t good value plays and will hinder you from rostering multiple studs.
I personally at the moment am not playing any Jazz, but if word comes down that Blake Griffin isn’t going to play over 20 minutes tonight, then I will probably switch him out for Favors or Hayward.
Golden State Warriors
You are rolling the dice if you are playing anyone else besides the big three. No one else on the team is above 20 MPG; huge time share going on. Steph sat last game, so he might play more minutes than he has so far this preseason.
Los Angeles Lakers
Lou Williams is a good source of value and he always has that potential to go on a hot streak and put up 20+ pts. I can see Randle being serviceable and if it wasn’t the Warriors, I’d consider Hibbert too, but I will be avoiding this team, with the potential exception of Williams.
Portland Trail Blazers
|Al – Farouq Aminu||30.8||1.0||6.0||1.7||0.7||1.3||12.7||$4800|
There are quite a few other players above 20 MPG that you could look at for this team such as Harkless, Crabbe, Leonard, and Davis.
I really like Lillard here (though he doesn’t seem to play well against Chris Paul) while McCollum provides good value. The issue is that these three players are playing an insane amount of minutes in the preseason, which I don’t know if that will happen tonight, especially since I think this will be a blowout. I can see the Clippers killing the Blazers and the Blazers starters getting pulled early. You may give it a shot with playing a second stringer here and hoping they get a bunch of garbage time stats.
Los Angeles Clippers
|DeAndre Jordan||26.0||0||8.8||0.6||1.8||1.8||8.0||$ 6800|
My worry about this, as I said above, is that this game will be a blowout. If that is the case, I don’t see the starters getting over 22ish minutes. Either way, I think Blake Griffin is close to a must play of the night against this weak front court of the Blazers.
That concludes the night’s games. I hope this has helped you in some way, and good luck in tonight’s contests. I’ll see you in the forums.
