NFL Preseason Hall of Fame Slate: Thoughts and Comments

I thought I’d post some info on names I’ve seen pop up that should be featured, at least for this two game slate.

Dallas/Arizona: Starters are likely not going to get any run for either team, Arizona has already said that Gabbert will play entire 1st half and Knight will play entire 2nd (which makes me like Dallas D). Zona has plenty of WR and RB competing for the last few roster spots it seems, one name that stands out is Andre Ellington, who could be playing for his job this preseason. I also don’t mind Jeremy Rosss or JJ Nelson at WR, but with the QB that will be throwing to them I think I will be fading the Zona WR crew.

On the Dallas side, there’s plenty of names that have seemed to stand out in camp. RB Rod Smith (brother of Jaylon) has garnered rave reviews and looks like could get a bulk of the work on Thursday night. Ronnie Hillman did get signed, but that seems like more of a camp body move then a move made for him to make the 53 man roster. I’d be surprised if he gets a lot of work on Thursday, but anything is possible. Dallas WR I like are Brice Butler (not sure of the workload he’ll get since he’s a fringe starter), Noah Brown, and Andy Jones. The big name I love here is Rico Gathers at TE. As always with DFS TE is a boom or bust spot. A lot of you may recognize this name, as he was a starter at Baylor in basketball and is in his 2nd year transitioning to football. The camp reports seem to indicate that Dallas wants to see what they have in this guy, and he may even play the entire game on Thursday. Especially with Dallas being thin at TE, I love this play.

CARvsHOU: This one’s a bit tougher to handicap. I think Watson and McCaffrey will be chalky on this two game slate, which makes me want to fade them in big tourneys if I can. Again, people are going to float to big names/starters that may only play 1 quarter at most, and Watson/McCafrey already seem to be getting starter treatment in camp. HOU WR situation has gotten interesting w the injury to Fuller IV, and I’d expect them to give Braxton Miller and Jaelen Strong extra looks throughout the preseason, starting with this game. Houston also has a couple of RB I’ve seen that have looked well in camp in D’Onta Foreman and Dare Ogunbowale. On the Carolina side I don’t really see much to like at WR. Honestly their depth chart after Funchess and Benjamin is names you could draw out of a hat. This could mean competition, but could also mean a lot of split reps, which is not what we look for in preseason. The name I do like here is RB Jalen Simmons. Another name that’s been getting rave reviews in camp, Simmons is pretty much the only RB on the roster other than McCaffrey that is an unknown commodity. Stewart, Whitaker, and CAP are all vets and known commodities, which makes me think Simmons could get a full half of work depending on how the game goes.

As always, anything is possible. I’m not an expert by any means but I just thought I’d post this since I’ve seen a lot of people asking questions and not getting actual answers or feedback.

i would expect houston to protect jalen strong and braxton miller this game because of the will fuller injury. youll definitely want a few arizona players but not the wr you mentioned. dont gorget in preseason nfl playing time is what matters. gabbert may be awful but against a 3rd string defense he could light them up and he gets a whole half. same with trevor knight.

Houston isn’t going to protect Braxton Miller and Jaelen Strong. That would mean their prized rookie QB would be throwing to Justin Hardee and Wendall Williams.
