NHL Elimination Chamber BOS Edition

First I’ll start by going over what happened last night.

In case you missed it the Tampa Bay Lightning have advanced by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0 to win the series 4-1. Well truthfully I thought this series would go at least 6 maybe 7. I kind of thought CAR would win too. I was wrong there. One thing I will say is this series was way closer than 4-1!!! If CAR could have just stayed out of the penalty box more they would still be playing. I can’t find it easily but I’d venture to say they were close to or over 50% on converting the PP into a goal. Special teams is wining playoff games big time this year!

Now we move unto the COL/VGK series. Last night was a strange game. COL was able to grab the lead near the end of the period with a weird angle goal by Saad with 2 seconds left in the first period. They scored again near the end of the second period. So we have the Colorado Avalanche leading 2-0 heading into the third. We all thought they were sitting pretty but they let VGK back into the game. Some depth players got the first goal (Tuch from Jannmark and Roy). Later is was March to get the 2nd one. We played the next 16 minuts tied and ended going to OT. In OT off a bad turnover Stone got a breakaway to put away the game early into OT. So now we have VGK up 3-2 heading home. That spells trouble for COL. I’ve been wrong a lot on these so I’ll just let the game play out.

I would imagine the Bruins have to be terrified going into tonight’s game. The Isles are at home with basically a full barn. That place is wild and has been extraordinary for them this year. They had the best home record in hockey this year. I’m going to be paying attention to the calls here as Bruce Cassidy whined about the refs and was fined 25K. I think it’ll make difference or the refs at least took note. One thing that’s been discussed throughout the hockey world is that was a sign that the Bruins are basically done. They can’t get it done on the ice so they had to take it elsewhere. It’s hard to disagree with that judging by what’s transpired. Varlamov stole that game as the Bruins outshot the Islanders 44 to 19!!! We’re going to need a big bounceback for Rask here. It’s hard to pick against the Islanders at home after all this but I want more playoffs and BOS has that experience. With that being said I think it’s close and I’ll go 4-3 Bruins tonight.

Final Thoughts
This playoffs are winding down and maybe because we kind of “missed out” last year, it seems these are some of the playoffs I’ve enjoyed the most in recent years. I like how in the NHL (unlike any other league) any team can make it! I mean we have the 4th seed Montreal Canadiens (and last to make the playoffs) in the “Conference Finals” (well not quite Conference). It’s hard not to keep underestimating them though. I think VGK or COL finishes them quickly but we’ve seen this movie before. And last but not least TB needs to go away!!! It’s pretty weird for me because I can go from hating one team one year to rooting for them the next. This year I “liked” CAR but hate TB (mostly because how they’re talked about lately). That’s just the hockey world for me now. Good luck tonight!!!
