Notes and Thoughts Wimbledon Day 1

Exciting times for tennis fans as Wimbledon kicks off. DK has a $15 with a tasty 25k up top and a $4 with 1k. Last year’s round one saw an amazing 7 top 10 seeds go down in round one, Garcia, Kvitova, Theim, Goffin, Stephens, Svitolina and Dimitrov among them, so the upsets are out there. As with my previous French Open blogs, I’m focusing on the middle tier, more cash centric plays but tennis is one of the few sports where the gpp crossover is not to far, just gotta get those 6 winners.

Mid-tier faves-

Diyas -220 over Collins. While neither is in the best of form, the lower ranked Diyas has a straight set win in Japan over Collins two years ago in their only meeting, and Collins 1st set retirement last week sets off alarm bells.

Peterson -160 over Wickmeyer. The 66th ranked Swede and 148th ranked Wickmeyer have never met, but Peterson showed good form at Eastbourn with wins over Sasnovich and Tsurenko, while Wickmayer had to go through qualifying, twice taking three sets to do so.

Plays to avoid-

Osaka -225 vs Putinseva. Putinsova beat Osaka in straight sets twice the last two years, including on grass at Birmingham recently. So what am I missing? Osaka gets pumped for the majors? If anything I would take a flyer on Putinseva for 6k and if she loses, probably still gets decent points and lets you spend up those other five.

Chardy -335 vs Klizan. They’re 1-1 vs each other albeit in 2012 and 2015. But Chardy is 1-2 on grass and has lost 5 of his last six matches. While probably still more talented than Klizan, I could see this going 4-5 sets and not giving the points you want at his price.

Cheapie play – Potapova

Good luck and green screens!
