Part#1: Perfect name for a Daily Fantasy Website

This industry is getting “bigger” every month, every football, basketball, baseball season. Daily fantasy sports aren’t as big of a secret as couple of years ago. There is not as much of a need to identify a dfs website with dfs in its name because of the popularity of the game reaching high levels. To me its the inside that counts. Here I will analyze the names and rank them from 1-10 scale based on relativity to subject and cleverness.

There are a couple of websites with an established fanbase, we all know who they are. Their names a pretty clever, ex Fanduel, it screams what it is: a battle between fans in fantasy sports with the end result making one person richer based on superior fantasy knowledge. This name also attracts people because will all have an ego when it comes to fantasy sports anything, we all think that we are the best(honestly, there hasn’t been a time when I put a team into a GPP and didnt think its going to win it all) Kudos to Fanduel for the name because it clever and it makes you imagine yourself “dueling” against others fans. Rating:10

Draftkings on the other hand, also a clever name because of the point made before, combining a fantasy related word and the name king which makes us imagine dominating an opponent in a fantasy battle while sitting in our throne(office chair in the house, or whatever it is that you sit on at the end of the night when all the games are about to close and you know that you have just beasted everybody) personally i think droping the s and make it a singular king would be 100x better. Another plus in my books goes for a simple dk abriviations that is commonly used. Rating:9

Other websites that have similar main idea of combining a a fantasy word with somthing els include: DraftDay (8), FantasyFeud (8), FanThrowDown (9), StatClash (8) ,FantasyElite (7), FantasyAces (6), WarDraft (6), DailyMVP (7), 247Drafts (9)

And here are the names that don’t work for me at all. Fanex gets a (1), Ballr (1), Swoopt (-1), SkyllZone (3), ScoreStreak (4)

The websites names and only names were rated.

The name for the perfect website is going to be …… The reasons why are as follows: it’s simple and easy to remember, with the industry being big there is no need to add words like clash, duel, war, battle, fight etc. to know what the website is about. Also when someone goes to the website its going to be well know from the start what goes on there, the name represents sports and fantasy asspect of it. There are more reasons why this is a good name but that will be disscused in later chapters of this blog. It also creats a cool abriviation dfs that is easily recognizable.

on the one hand, you say that draft kings and fan duel are clever because of the phrase added to a sports related term….but then in the last paragraph, you say there isnt a need for the descriptive term added at the end of it. Also, you say no need to have dfs in the title because of the size of the industry, yet the perfect name would actually be lol.

I think each way has its pro’s and con’s, maybe fanduel or draftkings sound a bit juvenile or even medieval, but they do stick in your head. I also like but to me it kind of sounds like a rotogrinders type of site as opposed to a site that hosts DFS contests.
Not trying to be a critic, and I look forward to reading the next parts of your blog, just a bit confused with some of your opinions.

I think these names would be better for the dfs space….ESPN, CBS, and Yahoo.

I always thought ProFANity was a really clever name. Just a shame it was so poorly run.
