Picking a NBA Pickem team 3-26-14

Last night was bloody awful. I did not think it was possible to go from as hot as I was over the last three days to as cold as I was last night. A lot of guys I had high expectations for failed, and when all four underdogs win, and your on the players of the team that’s the favorite it’s never a good thing. In the end an off day for me, but I am up early today after hammering out research all night because of how I mad I am at myself. Lets get into today’s big slate of Wednesday’s games.

Tier 1

#1 Kevin Love
#2 LeBron James
#3 Anthony Davis

This was really tough of a decision, I do not know if I ever spent so much time deciding between three guys. In the end I wanted to with LeBron so bad, but opted to go with the safer Love in the better match up. Love is a very solid player as we all know, and tonight he gets to go up against the soft interior of the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks rank 22nd against the PF over the last fifteen games, and in that time frame Love is averaging just over 40 FP’s a game. I am looking for a 50 FP game from Love tonight, and to be around 28/13/6.

Tier 2

#1 Blake Griffin
#2 DeMarcus Cousins (moves to #1 if IT2 does not play)
#3 Carmelo Anthony
#4 Al Jefferson

I am going with Blake Griffin as the slight pick here over Cousins, but as noted above if IT2 does not play then Cousins is the easy choice for the top spot. I think the first game of the road trip is always a trap game, and that’s why I dont mind recommending Blake here. I feel the Pelicans will keep this game closer than expected, and that will be more minutes, and more FP’s for Griffin. Anthony Davis is not that great of a defender he is just very aggressive, so Blake should have no problem getting his share of points tonight. Look for Blake to be around 24/11/5.

Tier 3

#1 Chris Paul
#2 Kyle Lowry
#3 John Wall
#4 Paul George
#5 Isaiah Thomas (questionable)

Another tough one between the top two here, as I love taking Kyle Lowry because he has been very consistent this year, probably because he has a big pay day coming to him from some team in the NBA. It was just too tough not to take Paul in this spot especially when I think the game will be closer, but even if its not, the last time these two teams played Paul went for 42 FP’s in 30 minutes. The Pelicans do not defend the PG well at all, and this is dream match up for a guard like Paul. I like Paul to be around 21/4/12.

Tier 4

#1 Andre Drummond
#2 Rudy Gay
#3 Tim Duncan
#4 Paul Millsap
#5 Deandre Jordan

I am going to with one of my favorite big man plays here, as Drummond is a great fantasy player especially on efficiency sites like DS. The match up against Cleveland is an average one, but as I always say I am not worried about match ups when I take Drummond. Reason being he is going to get almost all of his points off of offensive rebounds, and put backs. He shoots a high percentage, and grabs a ton of rebounds, and that’s what I want in a big man. Look for Drummond to be around 14/14/2.

Tier 5

#1 Jeff Teague
#2 Ty Lawson
#3 Ricky Rubio
#4 DeMar DeRozan
#5 Rajon Rondo
#6 Goran Dragic

Tough tier of PG’s here for sure. I ultimately decided to go with Teague, as he is playing well, and should torch the over aggressive Rubio. Teague has been playing well as of late averaging just over 31 FP’s a game over the past fifteen games. Teague should be able to create a lot of easy buckets for his teammates, as well as himself tonight. Look for Teague to be around 20/4/10.

Tier 6

#1 Tyreke Evans
#2 Marcin Gortat
#3 Zach Randolph
#4 Deron Williams
#5 Josh Smith
#6 Kemba Walker
#7 Greg Monroe

Anytime you can get a guy who can fill up the stat sheet in tier 6 you got a bonus. I love the way Tyreke has been playing, and he is definitely a stat sheet filler. If the Pelicans are going to keep this game close he is going to be one of the reasons, and they will need a big game from him for this to happen. This is why the Pelicans paid him this money in the off season. Look for Evans to be around 18/8/6.

Tier 7

#1 Amir Johnson
#2 Marc Gasol
#3 Kawhi Leonard
#4 Kenneth Faried
#5 David West
#6 Gordon Hayward
#7 Trevor Ariza
#8 Derrick Favors

Tough to choose from Johnson, and Gasol, but ultimately it led to the Raptors game is going to be slightly closer, and Amir should see 30+ minutes. The Celtics also are the second worst team in the NBA in the last fifteen against the PF. Johnson has been superb for the Raptors this year, and has been asked to play more minutes with the injury to Patrick Patterson. Look for Johnson to be around 17/11/2.

Tier 8

#1 Mike Conley
#2 Brandon Jennings
#3 Gorgui Dieng
#4 Lance Stephenson
#5 Spencer Hawes
#6 Eric Bledsoe
#7 Chris Bosh
#8 Tyson Chandler

I am going to go with the safe play here. If that is not the play for you than there are many risky plays here, based on match up, or a streak player. Conley is averaging just over 27 FP’s a game, and has a very positive match up tonight against the Jazz. The line is slightly closer than I expected, and this could mean more minutes for Conley. With out taking a risk here Conley has to be the play just based on consistency, and match up. Look for Conley to be around 18/7/4.

Good luck to everyone tonight.
