PlateIQ Stat of the Day: 7/2/2018
Note: Unless otherwise noted, stats referenced in this article will always be from the 2017 and 2018 (to date) seasons. Rather than mention it every time I cite a stat, I’ll just use this by default and point it out if I refer to a different time period.
Today’s post will be short, but sweet. In an effort to do these more frequently, I’ll probably cut out some of the fluff to save time.
Stat of the Day: The White Sox projected lineup has a Contact% of 74%, tied for the lowest on the slate. Luis Castillo has a Contact% allowed of 69% and a SwStrk% of 14%.
These factors, plus Castillo’s bargain bin price on DraftKings make him an excellent punt option tonight. Plus, the White Sox will be losing their designated hitter, meaning a few more potential strikeouts. The Reds are also facing James Shields, so run support shouldn’t be an issue. Castillo’s biggest struggle has been control with a 9% BB rate, but the White Sox are free swingers who rank last in the league in walks per game. He should be high-owned, but I think the upside is worth the risk tonight.
