Rocket Mortgage Classic

Well it’s time to put away the Travelers but first let me mention a few things. First off a big eff you to Jason Kokrak for making plenty of peoples’ lineups draw dead after one day. Talk about a case of the yips! The weird part is I kind of want to go right back to him right now. He was actually in the first lineup I put together so let’s hope it was only a one week thing. One another person to put on blast in Emiliano Grillo the chalk darling of the week. You get our hopes up for a big week, then make us sweat a fist cut, then a MDF (which somehow you make), and then you hang it up even worse on Sunday. Why have we learned not to play those “touted” guys every week that we are really not comfortable with. Ok that’s a bit harsh as I had him down before I read anything but still. Last but not least congrats to Chez Reavie for your first win in 10+ years! He was on my cash team and my highest scoring lineup (no 6/6s for me this week).

We now get the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic taking place in Detroit, Michigan at the Detroit Golf Club. This is a par 72 course that measures at ~ 7,334 yards. This course has never been played on tour before so we get to experience something new. The course is pretty tree-lined and you will want to be accurate here off the tee. I am seeing it benefit the bomber’s slightly but most should be able to reach the greens for good looks at birdies and eagles. I expect it to be a bit of a “birdiefest” but can see putting becoming an issue with undulating greens. Let’s get to it! I am pretty excited for this event as I grew up in suburban Detroit and it’s great to have golf back.

Key Stats
I’m going to be honest here, I typically let Noto do the grunt work and start with his stats from the PGA First Look here at RG (here). This week I’ll leave it at that and give you some of the “stats” I like for my plays this week
1. SG (a)
2. BoB
3. SG (ott)
4. bogey avoidance
5. SG (p)

All my stats are from 2019 this time. And as always here is the smartgolfbets spreadsheet It will only give “form” this week and a little more about the course.

Thank you! I’m playing this one kind of blind. I think we see a lot of scrubby names playing well here. Really think that “eagle” stat will come into play. I’m missing a few but those 3 are my favorite I think.
