Stack of the Day 04/19/2017
Past couple days have not had many stacks I was interested but today I found one that I think is quite interesting on this slate and could go low owned. Today we will yet again attack the former CY Young winner Rick Porcello. Last time I attacked him with the Tigers and he gave up 11 hits in 6 innings! This is another spot where I think we can take advantage of Porcello. One thing I love about this spot is that the Blue Jays have been horrible this year and everyone is sick of rostering them. Since they have been so bad their prices have dropped significantly and on a day, I want to jam Kershaw in I will be loading up on Toronto in hopes that this top 10 offense will embrace variance and get hot tonight.
Ezequiel Carrera: Against left handed pitching Carrera has been given a bump to the top of the order and for a cheap price tag across the industry batting first he is the perfect play in your stacks or even as a one off to help get Kershaw in your lineup. It is cheap exposure to an offense that I am looking to target in tournaments. It also helps that the 3 pitch types Carrera hits best are all Porcello’s pitches and in a nice hitter’s park Carrera is a guy I want to have exposure to on this slate.
Kevin Pillar: Pillar is a guy I prefer against lefties and I understand if you do not want to include him in your stack because he has a wOBA of .305 against lefties and .291 against righties. The reason I want to roster Pillar in this spot is simple he’s another cheap OF to include on this slate in my stack which helps me get Kershaw. On top of that if I am stacking up the Blue Jays I am hoping Porcello gets shelled and is out in 3 to 4 innings and if that is the case then Pillar can tee off on the bullpen. I don’t love him in stacks but if you need to mash him in to fit Kershaw I don’t think Pillar is a bad play but is not a good one off in this spot.
Jose Bautista: One of the BvP specials of the day is Joey Bats!! Bautista owns Porcellos historically hitting 16-38 with four homeruns and a slugging percentage of .737. He also has been walked 7 times compared to 5 strikeouts which makes me think he sees the ball very well when Porcello throws the ball. Joey Bats is probably my favorite play in this spot and I think he will hit a homerun tonight. If you look at Bautista’s profile he has a higher launch angle against righties so I believe he is a better candidate for a homerun against right handed pitching. Either way if you’re not a BvP truther looking deeper at what Porcello throws he throws a lot of sinkers and fourseams and that is what Bautista hits best so this is a spot I would make Bautista a must in stacks and a great one off play.
Kendrys Morales: Morales is the best hitter on the team right now so he is a guy I would include no matter what in my stacks. I would not leave him off because despite their offensive woes Morales is still hitting the ball the best. One thing I love about Morales too is that he is cheap I can get him on FanDuel for $2900 and $3400 on DraftKings. Morales is a cheap power bat who has a higher launch angle against right handed pitching so this is a good spot where he could go deep.
Troy Tulowitzki: I keep falling into this Tulo trap and he keeps letting me down so why not jump in another time! Tulo hits the sinker and fastball best but can struggle with the curve but Porcello only throws it to right handers 12% of the time so if we can dodge that as an out pitch Tulo has a shot to hit Porcello well in this spot. I also love Tulo’s price tag for only $3600 on DraftKings at a SS position that I don’t love so putting Tulo in my stacks or as a one off is something I will be doing on this slate. So yes, I will be falling in the Tulo trap one more time and hopefully this time I will be rewarded!
Russell Martin: Martin is a guy who has been getting unlucky with a lot of his hits despite hitting the ball well. Cather is never a spot I love to roster and on a site like FanDuel I love only having to pay $2500 for him on this slate. It is a great way to get cheap exposure at a position I hate to roster so Martin will be on some of my stacks on this slate.
Steve Pearce: This is a guy that I will not roster on this slate at all. I already have interest in 3 outfielders if Pearce gets a good spot in the order I will consider him more but I do not think that I will be playing him in this spot.
Chris Coghlan: He is one of the few lefties that Porcello will see but this is a guy that we could consider on this slate but I really don’t want to play him. The only scenario I will have exposure with him is if I need $2100 dollars saving at either 3B or in the OF on DraftKings or if he gets a better spot in the batting order. Certainly, don’t hate a lefty against Porcello and that price tag of $2100 is quite appealing when trying to get Kershaw in my lineups.
Devon Travis: Travis is a pass for me on DK price is too much for him in a bad spot batting 9th likely in this lineup. On FanDuel for only $2300 the near minimum if you want to get creative with your stack I can see going Travis here for a wraparound stack. Travis profiles well against Porcello’s pitches so that helps him as well but this is a play I would want very minimal exposu
