Take Me Out to the Ball Game
This morning, the doorbell rang and when I looked out the window it was clear that the two visitors were of a religious variety. White shirt/blouse with black pants/skirt and holding pamphlets and a Bible. As I do every time this happens, I opened the door, greeted the two with a smile and said “Good morning. How are you today? I’m not interested, but hope you have a great day.” They smiled, said thanks and went about their day. On one hand, I completely disagree with what they are doing. On the other hand, I have great respect for them. They spend all day long getting rejected, both in nice and not-so-nice ways. Clearly they have serious conviction in their beliefs. That power of conviction must be what drives them on their silly and nearly impossible quest. It is also what drives us on our DFS journey. Even when things don’t work out, we have conviction in our rosters. Today, I have very strong convictions in a number of topics, including the afternoon slate. Let’s take a look at what these convictions might be.
1) I have newfound conviction that the St. Louis Cardinals are dead to me. The Cards are cold (in real life baseball and DFS) and sucked big time last night. Not a pitcher that struggles with lefties nor wonderful weather conditions could get the Cardinals out of their funk. I know they don’t play tonight, but I’m done with the Cardinals.
2) I have conviction that Paul Casey is not mentally tough. Casey withdrew from the Charles Schwab PGA tournament Friday because he has the flu. He shot 1 under on Thursday, but then pulled out. Sure, the flu can be serious, but somehow I think Casey can play a round of golf with the flu. Yes, he might stink and miss the cut, but at least he would have tried. Except he didn’t.
3) I have conviction that the Twins and Yankees will combine for 20+ runs this afternoon. Both teams are hot at the plate and are facing pitchers that give up the goods (Banuelos for the White Sox and Junis for the Royals) and are backed by bullpens that struggle. Getting all the bats you want into your lineups is impossible given their prices; as such, I am looking at the bottom of the Yankees order for value and the top of the Twins order for muchos power and home runs today. I am using these teams in the “Very Early” slate on FD and the afternoon slate for DK. Pitching is tougher, but it is taking a backseat to the bats for me.
4) I have conviction that I will do almost no research for the main slate today. A beautiful Saturday afternoon/evening filled with yard work and a cookout where “el vino will flow” (get that quote and you are awesome) takes precedent. It will be a 6:30pm-7:00pm scramble and I’m ok with that.
Good luck with your contests today.
