The Great RG Chat Team Tournament of 2014

What’s a tournament without a blog to follow the action.

Last week in chat, some grinders were kicking around the idea of a HORSE style tournament to figure out who was best at handling multiple sports in a short period of time. Whether it was pdidawg82’s idea or 8mileallstars, or someone else’s entirely, is not for me to say. But if they want to battle it out rap style like Rabbit and Papa Doc on the next Night Sweats, who am I to stop them?

Anyway, the HORSE idea evolved into a five-round draft with seven captains selecting players in six different sports to compete in 16 different slates over eight days, with one emerging as the RG Chat Team Champion. Stevietpfl was kind enough to throw together a team of RG show hosts to add some legitimacy to the proceedings, and two teams of undrafted free agents with chips on their shoulder were hastily thrown together, and we were off.

Unitl astukas went AWOL for the weekend and his NFL guy failed to show, nearly dooming the Tournament before it began. But grinders never give up, grinders find a way, so we found a kocards – a self proclaimed NFL guy – in chat minutes before kickoff to save the day and join team astukas.

So there we were basking in all our glory, as the tournament kicked off on FD with nine of the greatest football minds in the industry (and dmort, too) coming together to kick off the 2014 RG Chat Team Tournament with the first event – Week 10 NFL.

And they kicked it off in grand fashion, with three or four teams sweating out the end tonight, and the 10 points for the winning team still very much in play.

Follow all the NFL action right here:

rmthawk64 proved to be a much better football guy than a singer and is the leader in the clubhouse for teamsethayates with 148.78 pts. He had four players eclipse the 20-pt plateau, led by Maclin and Hill. He was the only one of the 10 on Maclin. Chasing him down tonight are teamrealking’s infinite420, who has 136.62 and a WR remaining, and team gotembaseball’s gotembaseball, with 129.92 and a WR remaining. Teamtomac’s rotokevin (101.6) has an outside shot, choosing to close hard on Monday night with a QB, WR, and TE remaining.

Upcoming contests in the Great RG Chat Team Tournament of 2014:

NFL part 2 – there is no time to cry in the nachos, as these same 10 guys return to battle tonight, competing on the small Mon-Thurs slate.

Tuesday the action really picks up, with half the field in play, as the soccer, hockey, and basketball guys step into action.

H.O.R.S.E. idea was first (recently) mentioned by 8mile. I never claimed to have come up with it. I have an Ironman idea that I’ll be trying out after this is over. Excited to be a part of this though!
