The Quest: For PGA DFS Success

Welcome everyone to my brand-new PGA DFS blog! Many of you will know me from my many forum posts here on Rotogrinders, but for those who don’t, I’ve been playing DFS for about four years focusing almost entirely on PGA & NFL for the last three. I work full time as an attorney negotiating sales contracts for a medical diagnostics company and spend a large chunk of my free time researching, building, and sweating DFS lineups. I’ve found success and shown a profit each of the last three years in PGA with a particular style of focusing on ideal course fit with the golfers I choose and targeting my GPP entries to higher buy-in smaller field size GPPs with flatter payouts whenever possible. One of my next big goals in DFS is to expand my play style and see if I can succeed with more lineups and a mass entry attack, which is one of the key reasons I am starting this blog.

As I thought about how I wanted to structure this blog, I wanted to find a way to give it an overall goal while still being able to tackle a variety of topics week to week. I also thought about what I enjoy most and what all my hobbies have in common is….gaming. Whether it is DFS, Poker, Video Games, Board Games, or RPGs, it is the strategy, learning, and journey of playing that makes these things enjoyable to me. Which brings us to…….THE QUEST!

My goal for this blog is to level up my DFS character and complete The Quest: For PGA DFS Success. The main quest for our adventure will be to eventually finish 1st in a PGA GPP that we have max entered (either 20 max or eventually 150 max), and along the way I will challenge myself (or you readers will challenge me) with side quests related to that main goal, whether that means breaking down the weekly tournament course or evaluating the new tour rookies. For each side quest completed I will give myself some small reward related to the main quest of tackling MME GPP success. I encourage anyone reading to follow my journey, challenge me along the way, and to play alongside me and tackle The Quest yourself. So, without further preamble, let us get to the details of the main Quest.

MAIN QUEST: FINISH 1ST IN A LARGE FIELD PGA GPP ON DRAFTKINGS WHILE ENTERING THE MAX NUMBER OF LINEUPS (20 MAX OR 150 MAX)

QUEST DETAILS: Starting with the 2020 calendar season and the tournament of champions I will begin selectively max entering at least one DK PGA GPP per week. Each week I’ll analyze my results, adjust my strategies and aim to progress and profit until we can capture a GPP win. During this time, I will continue to play my long term profitable dfs golf strategy of 1-3 main lineups in smaller field contests, but I will set aside a specific separate bankroll for my max entry adventure. I will also seek to tackle a variety of side quests which may allow me to earn more money for my max entry bankroll or whatever other fun twists I decide to include. So, join me as we seek to fight our way to a GPP win!

QUEST REWARD: I imagine that winning a big GPP prize will be its own reward for me, but as a reward for the blog journey I’ll offer up a small piece of that GPP win in a freeroll to those that follow along with me.

——————————————————————————————————————————-

Now that we’ve got the adventure prepared, it’s time to start getting ourselves ready to play. My plan is to use the next couple of months for the rest of the 2019 fall season to complete some starting quests and ramp myself up from 1-3 lineups a week up to an initial 20 max entry. Each week in preparation for that week’s PGA event I will challenge myself with one or more side quests as part of my research and in doing so I will ‘earn’ my starting bankroll for the main quest which will determine at what price point our max entry adventure will begin in 2020.

While you wait for the first weekly quest, I encourage you to leave a comment with your thoughts on the format of the blog, as well as any topics you would like to see me tackle as part of my side quests. I would also encourage you to join me and complete the same quests or complete your own in an effort to learn something new and improve your overall DFS play in both enjoyment and profitability.

Until the adventure continues…

Johnny Quest had a dog named Bandit. Allowing others to ‘bandit” your winnings in a freerole is a nice touch.

PGA shark incoming! Good luck and like everybody else here I’ll be happy to follow along. I’ll be curious to see which contests you pick. I’m sure you’ll start small and work your way up.

Looking forward to seeing how you transition your player pool from 1-3 lineups to 20. In terms of the size of your player pool and how you set player exposures. Good luck!

As a fellow 1-3 lineups player (PGA) and have thought about trying to max enter some GPP, although lower stakes ones, I look forward to reading your blogs.
