Week 3: The Switch Up
This week I made the switch from DK to FD. I decided to shift some funds around and deposited a little money on FD to give it another try. My first run on FD was extremely unsuccessful and the small amount of money I deposited there disappeared way to quickly. Who knew this would be the best idea I have had to date in DFS!? My first 2 nights on FD I was profitable. The first night I cashed in all 5 50/50’s and min cashed in a $2 single entry for a total profit of about $7.50. On night #2 I again cashed in all 5 50/50’s but failed to cash in either of the single entry tournaments I entered. I did learn a few lessons from the first two days of the week and I will examine one of those along with a winning LU for today’s blog post. Enjoy!
When I started writing this I figured I would write about a LU from the first two days of the switch up since I did so well and profited two nights in a row. Then Friday night came around and I hadn’t done as much research as usual so I decided to just throw a $1 single entry in on FD and see what happened. Just so happens that I woke up Saturday morning to a $15 win! I will examine that LU instead below.
In this case I learned that at times I can do too much research and overthink my LU’s. I did not do as much throughout the day, but when I got home from school I hit the net hard to try to put together a single LU to throw in the $1 single entry. When I looked at the PG position Patty Mills was a no brainer when I heard Parker was out. At only $3,700 he was set up to crush value and opened up some salary for me to pay up elsewhere. I would have loved to play Curry in what I thought would be a good fantasy game, but I opted to drop down to Wall as I thought he would score close to Curry with a soft match up. Where I had the most trouble was with SG. I couldn’t make up my mind who to roster so I decided to find a couple low priced value guys and pay up elsewhere. OJ Mayo was an easy value pick as he has been consistently producing over 20 points in his starting role. Danny Green was my least favorite pick, but with Parker resting for the Spurs and a match up against the lowly Lakers I thought it was his coming out party. Like 8 3’s, 5 boards, and 5 assists, but we see how that turned out. At SF and PF I targeted two teams. The Spurs and the Warriors were set up for big nights from these positions. With Klay out Iguodala and Green’s usage was going to be up and it was set to be a high scoring game that I had to have a piece of since I passed on Curry. I will pat myself on the back for taking those two for sure! Picking Aldridge and Kawhi was also easy with Parker resting their usage was going to be up for sure, and I figured Pop would give Duncan a rest against the Lakers. Who doesn’t like picking on the Lakers!? At center I had lots of money left over to pay up for Drummond and he was in a great position against that team from Philly that gives up fantasy points like it’s their job. Overall I started with DvP to see what teams I wanted to target at each position. After I did that I looked at the Vegas totals and knew I had to have a piece of the GSW vs BOS game for sure. As always I check updates on injuries and resting players before game time and that led me to Mills and the GSW picks. Now if only I could keep the trend going upwards!
Overall this week I am up almost $8 which is my highest profiting week to date including all weeks before I started my blogging adventure. I feel like I am getting the hang of cash LU’s as I have been very successful on FD when it comes to cash games. I cashed in 54% of my 50/50’s which isn’t quite profitable now that I do the math, but if that is where I start and increase my win % from there I like my chances!
My switch up seems to be a successful adventure so far. I will continue to play on FD and every so often if I am feeling confident I will throw a LU in the Daily Dollar on DK as well, but I am going to continue to with my 50/50 games and $1 single entry at FD and hope to make another profitable week. Heck I might even make myself a little extra Christmas cash to spend if I can get lucky! Hope everyone else had a successful week as well, and if not, like all my fellow Cubs fans say, there is always next week!
