Week 4: Here Comes Santa Claus
As the first semester came to a close I had one heck of a week at school. I will make a long story short and just say it was a crazy week that ended up with us closing school Friday and now needing to make up finals when we come back from break. All the extra things going on around me really didn’t leave me much time to research like I should so I ended up taking a few days off. I haven’t had time to sit down and calculate out exactly how this week went, but after last night I think I am up a couple bucks across all sights. It’s hard to believe but NFL actually put me into the positive this week. I had a free roll over at Fantasy Aces for blogging and was a lock for $7.50 since hardly anyone signed up, and then Golden Tate and Ben Watson took me into the cash as well! I am starting to get the hang of playing NFL that is for sure! Since I brought home the big bucks in NFL this week I will take a look at my Fan Duel NFL LU.
*Cam Newton – 41.6
*James White – 17.2
*David Johnson – 42.9
*AJ Green – 4.2
*Golden Tate – 19.5
*Tyler Lockett – 14
*Ben Watson 13.9
*Adam Vinatieri – 4
*Cardinals – 17
Two players really carried me to cash this week and that was Newton and Johnson. I love Cam Newton and have him on 2 of my season long fantasy teams, and I could not pass on him this week. The guy has been on fire and I was sure it was going to continue. Johnson I wasn’t so sure about until I knew Ellington wasn’t going to play. When I heard that and I thought Arizona would walk all over Philadelphia I wanted him because I was sure he was going to get tons of carries. I was surprised at how high his ownership was, but maybe that is just the newbie in me. While Watson and Tate brought me into the cash with good Monday night games there were two guys that let me down this week. AJ Green was a big disappointment with only 1 catch on the day. In my mind the Bengals playing San Fran was a great match up for a #1 WR, but as I look back at it now I realize it was a game set up for the run because it was McCarron’s first start at QB. I wish I would have considered that before Sunday around 1! I thought the Houston and Indy game was going to have field goals galore as I wasn’t sure either team could punch it in the end zone. I just picked the wrong side of the game I wanted to target at kicker. Woulda coulda shoulda though right!?
I have learned to not look back in disappointment and despair, but instead with analysis and hope. It really does you no good to look back through your LU’s and the winning LU’s to see who you could have had, you thought about but didn’t roster, or who you had but changed last minute.(This was Gortat for me last night) I now look back at my LU’s in pure analysis as to what I did wrong and what I missed when picking someone who scored low. Then I look at the top LU’s and see who they picked and think about why you would have picked that player to score well that night. I have discovered that creating and fine tuning your own strategy is a great way to start in DFS, but I have been doing that for months now and am still currently down money from where I started. It is time to take my research and strategy to the next level. I have discussed my strategies for creating a LU by starting with all value and building up from there, but now I have started analyzing top players rosters to start really understanding who the good plays are and why.
If I had one piece of advice for someone just starting DFS I would tell them to bet all their money the first night!! Just kidding! In all seriousness, if I could only give you one piece of advice as you start this DFS journey I would say never be disappointed in a losing night because all you have done is given yourself even more and even better things to analyze so you can win tomorrow!
I hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays!
