Toronto Raptors 2019 Offseason and Team Outlook

2018-19 Record 58-24
2019-20 Record 50-32 Prediction

The Raptors have set themselves up nice for a rebuild after next season if that is the direction they end up going. It’s worth one more try this season after the shocking departure of Kawhi Leonard. Then, you have Kyle Lowry ($35.0 mil), Fred VanVleet ($9.3 mil), Serge Ibaka ($23.3 mil), and Marc Gasol (25.6 mil) all coming off the books next season for a whopping $93.2 mil in salary cap space!

I’m not sure all of the players will resign. They came and got the job done last year, won a title, and for the city of Toronto, you can’t expect anything more.

Out of these four, I would at least try to resign VanVleet, and then Kyle Lowry to a more team friendly contract to finish out his career in Toronto. They need to make it a priority to resign Paskal Siakam, who is going to be the face of the Raptors after next season, if I had to guess, with all of the other presumed departures. They brought in a few key additions, and we’ll have to see how they pan out, but they will go good with a rebuild as well.

I’m hoping that Stanley Johnson finally finds his groove on this new team as he will be playing SF in place of Leonard. OG Anunoby will provide some insurance at the position as well. Let’s not forget to mention Norman Powell, since he should have an expanded role coming up, being signed to a three year contract upon the departure of Danny Green.
