WNBA Wednesday-Thursday Targets
WNBA Wednesday-Thursday Targets
Going a little different with this WNBA piece because it’s just a two game slate I am going to write up some individually players and talk about them at each position. Let me know which format you liked more on twitter @travismangone. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to get back to them on twitter. I might add a couple plays throughout the day as well so check back later for possible some more plays.
Guards Top Tier
Brianna January: I am not in love with the guard position today but in the top tier Briana January is an option I will have exposure to on this slate. She is the cheaper Fever option and I think Shenise played over her head and is overpriced at that tag. I was bullish on January’s outlook going forward and seeing a team high 30% usage rate is great and 27.50 FanDuel points. Shenise Johnson had 44.60 fdp last game but I do not expect that performance again so I will let everyone overpay for her. January only had one less shot attempt than Shenise and January had 0 rebounds while Shenise somehow grabbed a team high 8 rebounds! She is only 5’11 and like I said it is clear that paying that tag is too much and will hurt your overall roster construction. Phoenix was also ranked last against guards last season and targeting a Fever guard would be a good strategy on this slate. Pricing is tighter than last time and I think it’s the right call to go January here.
Diana Taurasi: Taurasi shot 1-11 last game and was just awful at 80% ownership in the three-dollar tournament putting up 5 FanDuel points. I would not expect another pathetic performance again and at $5,600 I like that price tag. Danielle Robinson took some usage from her which I expected to happen but I did not expect that awful performance by Taurasi. She had her wedding the night before so maybe we can point to narrative street and too much of a long day before where she just didn’t have her energy for the next day. Either way Taurasi still saw a good usage of 23.5% with 11 shot attempts so that is encouraging. I will go back to the well hoping the ownership is down on a player who averaged 26.65 FanDuel points last year. Taurasi should get to at least 20 FanDuel points in this high paced game against the Fever and I like her in this matchup.
Mid tier and low tier:
Sugar Rogers: A price tag of $4,500 is too cheap for her in a game where she let down last time but that was partially due to blow out. In a game against the Lynx I expect Rodgers to command the ball and produce over 20 FanDuel points in this matchup. Last season she averaged 30 minutes a game and only had 24 minutes. Prince and Boyd took a lot of the ball control late in the game which hurt Rodgers but I don’t expect that to happen again. Give me Rodgers again at this cheap price tag.
Danielle Robinson: This pass first guard is an option that I like for a tag of $4200. She had a 24.1% usage in game one with 9 assists! I think that number will go down a bit but it is clear the ball will be in her hand often. I like Robinson in this matchup but I think we need to be smart with how we use her. Pairing her with Taurasi does not seem like the most viable option so just depends on where she fits in her your roster construction.
Seimone Augustus: I am going to add Seimone Augustus to the list of plays on FanDuel that I like today. Augustus played 31 minutes in her first game and provided at least 10 shot attempts with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Seimone contributed in a bunch of categories and we saw Currie slice through the Liberty guards last game and I think Seimone is a nice cheap option that could be a good scoring threat in this matchup. At a tag of $4100 I think seimone is a good value play that has some upside in this matchup.
Forward Top Tier:
Tina Charles: Charles is in a great spot where she should get a ton of run. Similar to Rodgers, Charles saw fewer minutes due to blow out and I would expect the Liberty to lean on Charles a ton in this matchup. Let’s not forget Charles is one of the few WNBA players to average more than 40 FanDuel points last season and had a usage over 30. Don’t let that last game be an outlier, Charles is the best option at forward in this competitive game against the Lynx.
Maya Moore: Moore another option that I expect to have a great game in this spot. Maya Moore put up 32.40 Fanduel points in the Lynx opener while shooting 5-19 from the field and 1-11 from the three-point line. I expect Moore to have a much better shooting performance and for $400 cheaper I will take her over Sylvia Fowles. I expect many to flock to Fowles because she had 50 FanDuel points but I won’t let that one game steer me wrong. Moore and Charles are the better plays in this top price tier, Fowles had a big game and I won’t let recency bias get me and don’t let it get you either. Fowles should also have to deal with Tina Charles who is a great rebounder and her coach was pissed that Fowles did not have more defensive rebounds last game. Fowles was scoring so much that she was not as focused on getting defensive boards. Fowles scoring production will likely go down and don’t get me wrong she should have a good game but I believe Charles and Moore are the better options in this price tier and recency bias and game log chasers should lock in Fowles.
Britney Griner: I also like Griner a ton in this spot as well for $6300 she is kind of in a price tier by herself but I will throw her in the mid-tier. Griner should be a consistent Fantasy option all year who I love for cash games and has tournament upside as well. In Griner’s last matchup she had only 2 rebounds which is odd for her because she led the team in rebounds last year with 6.5 per game. The addition of Danelle Robinson should help Griner on the offensive end because she is such a pass first point guard. I love Griner as a safe consistent option in this matchup against the Fever.
Candice Dupree: This is likely a boring and common trend in this article but Dupree shot 3-13 last game. And only had 3 rebounds way below her season averages and they traded for her for a reason. For a tag of only $4500 I like going back to the well on her.
Rebecca Brunson: What I like most about Brunson is that she is consistent and a great cash play. For $4,700 Brunson should rarely kill your lineup and for $4700 I don’t mind that. She averaged 20 Fanduel points a game last year and for that tag I will sign up for that any day. In a matchup against the Liberty she should have more than 22 minutes and this seems like a great idea to go back to the well if you’re looking for a safe option I like Brunson a lot.
