Game Overview

With their playoff lives on life support, the Minnesota Wild played an inspired 60 minutes of hockey last night and left Tampa Bay with an impressive 3-0 win over the NHL’s best Tampa Bay Lightning. They won’t have long to enjoy their big win however, as they’ll make the short trip to South Beach for tonight’s battle with the Minnesota Wild. Offensively, Bruce Boudreau always seems concerned with spreading his offensive weapons across multiple forward lines. However, with Mikko Koivu (and Victor Rask) sidelined, he’s now forced to rely on his top two lines to carry the load offensively. Zach Parise leads the team with 55 points in 66 games and is slated to skate alongside Luke Kunin and Kevin Fiala on the top line. However, it’s been the trio of Jason Zucker, Eric Staal and Ryan Donato doing most of the damage lately. In four games during the month of March, these three have already combined for six goals and six assists. Defensively, the Minnesota Wild have received more offensive production than any other team in the NHL this season. Ryan Suter is the top option given his 44 points in 68 games and he torched the Florida Panthers for three assists in their only previous meeting this season. Alternatively, Jared Spurgeon is just one point shy of his first career 40+ point season and he’s a rock solid option in all formats, as well.
