NHL Grind Down: Saturday, December 29th

The RotoGrinders NHL Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the NHL schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy hockey there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, salaries, and more.

The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. Hockey is an extremely high variance sport. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

Remember, these writeups are done prior to lineups being released, so make sure to check our Starting Lineups page to ensure the recommended options are playing.

Carolina Hurricanes at New Jersey Devils

This is a close as you will get to a battle of the basement type scenario with the Hurricanes holding the 35-33 point edge in the Metropolitan Division. Of course both teams are still a good eight points away from even thinking of playing hockey in mid-April. The status of Jordan Staal is still up in the air but that doesn’t matter here as he and his 11 points in 29 games are hardly playable on a 15 game slate. In fact not many Carolina players are playable here as Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen lead the team from the top line with 39 and 29 points respectively. Justin Williams has managed to grab seven goals and 13 assists while skating inside the top six but the guy to look at here is Andrei Svechnikov as he has been moved to the top line. Svechnikov has managed to light the lamp 10 times while collecting 18 points so far this season. Justin Faulk and Jaccob Slavin lead the Carolina blue liners with 12 points apiece.
