The Senators come into this one fresh off a 4-2 win against the same tem that they face-off against this evening. The venue will change to south of the Canadien border as the Buffalo Sabres will put their 3-2-1 home record on the line this evening. The Senators top line of Matt Duchene, Ryan Dzingel and Mark Stone should be the line to target here as they have combined for 13 goals and 17 assists through the first 12 games while defenseman Thomas Chabot leads the team with 12 assists and 15 points. Chris Tierney and Bobby Ryan skate on the second line while Mikkel Boedker has been dropped to the third line while still seeing quite a bit of power play time. Chris Wideman and Maxime Lajoie are the other choices on the back line along with Dylan Demelo as they all have registered seven points so far except for Wideman who has snagged just five points in the first 12 games.
The Sabres have been doing some damage with the extra attacker as they have lit the lamp six times over the last 20 opportunities. This falls right in line with the Ottawa penalty kill as they have given up eight goals in their last 19 tries at killing at penalty. The top line of Jeff Skinner, Jack Eichel and Jason Pominville have been hot as they have combined for 12 goals and 17 assists over the last six games. Casey Mittelstadt centers Sam Reinhart and Remi Elie on the second line while Conor Sheary, Kyle Okposo and Vladimir Sobotka also have the talent to put the puck in the net. Sticking with Eichel and Skinner would be the prudent thing to do here as Skinner’s seven goals is tops on the team while Eichel leads the team with 10 assists and 14 points. Rasmus Ristolainen and Rasmus Dahlin are the choices on the blue line with the former grabbing five points and the latter finding the score sheet four times in the first 13 games.
