NHL Grind Down: Tuesday, February 5th

The RotoGrinders NHL Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the NHL schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy hockey there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, salaries, and more.

The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. Hockey is an extremely high variance sport. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

Remember, these writeups are done prior to lineups being released, so make sure to check our Starting Lineups page to ensure the recommended options are playing.

Game Overview

The Bruins come into this game as one of the most predictable teams in hockey. That top line is lethal, but their price reflects it.
Boston is ranked third in the NHL with a +16 expected goals for differential on home ice and while the Islanders are decent on paper, I am never scared to use any of the Bruins top scorers in any format considering how often they are on the ice and how productive they are.

The raw stats showing well over a point per game for Bergeron, Pastrnak and Marchand are very sustainable considering their underlying numbers. Load these guys up! With the Islanders having a weak penalty kill, that gives Torey Krug a boost as well as part of a GPP stack.

The Islanders are in a tough road spot against one of the best teams on home ice in hockey. While Bergeron’s line typically shadows opponent’s top lines, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were tasked with shutting Matt Barzal down. This would be a boost to Lee, Nelson and Eberle, which is the line that correlates together the most anyways.

Tuukka Rask has struggled this year so I don’t mind stacking that Islanders top line in GPPs, but I wouldn’t spread my exposure much further.
