With four straight wins under their belt, the Washington Capitals will invade the City of Brotherly Love looking to deliver a dagger to the playoff chancecs of the Flyers. After a seven game losing streak during mid-January, the Capitals have regained the top spot in the Metropolitan Division thanks to a solid 11-4-1 record over their last 15 games. Alex Ovechkin is the obvious choice here as he leads the entire NHL with 45 goals and ranks third in shots with 266 SOG. He’ll skate alongside Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson and that makes both of them very nice options in its own right. Now, they’ll likely see all of Sean Couturier’s pestering defense as Scott Gordon can manage and that’s notable as he’s one of the best two-way forwards in the league. However, Philadelphia does own one of the league’s worst penalty kills (27th ranked) and it’s very clear how dangerous Ovie can be on the wing of that top power-play unit. While Ovechkin is perhaps the top play on the entire board tonight despite the matchup opposite Couturier, it’s worth noting that the trio of Nicklas Backstrom, T.J. Oshie and Jacob Vrana accounted for four of the team’s five goals in the first meeting between these two teams this season. They certainly have plenty of upside and will likely see far less ownership than their first line teammates. On defense, John Carlson is a A+ option once again tonight thanks to that horrific Philly penalty kill. Fire him up in all formats.
